EQUIVALENCY PROCEDURE

Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement but believe they possess the equivalent, must submit an Equivalency Application Form including full supporting documentation and mail to the Human Resources Department (this is separate from the online application). All non-U.S transcripts must be evaluated by an evaluation and translation service in order to be reviewed for equivalency. The Equivalency Application Form may be downloaded from our website, www.peralta.edu, in the Human Resources area.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  1. Required documents will include:
  • Current resume of experience, formal education/training and qualifications.
  • Copies of supporting credentials, if applicable.
  • Copies of transcripts from fully accredited college or university institutions. (This means we do not need official copies. Please do not mail or fax transcripts. Please do not have your college send us your transcripts. You must scan your transcripts and upload them to your application.)

This means do not upload diplomas to your application, we only need conferred transcripts. (If hired, only then will it be required to submit official transcripts from fully accredited college or university.)

Information on transcripts must include degree awarded and confer date. Transcripts without this information and online applications without transcripts will be disqualified. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF YOUR DEGREE WILL NOT BE CONFERRED UNTIL A LATER DATE. A MINIMUM OF A MASTER'S DEGREE MUST BE CONFERRED WHEN THE APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employees must satisfy all pre-employment requirements to work for the District which include, but are not limited to, the following items:

  • Tuberculosis Examination: Prior to employment, the successful candidate will be required to submit evidence (either skin test or X-ray report) of being free of tuberculosis within the past sixty (60) days.
  • Fingerprinting Requirement: As a condition of employment, all employees working for community colleges in the State of California are required to be fingerprinted within the first ten (10) working days of the date of employment pursuant to Education Code Section 88024.
  • Immigration Requirement: According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the Peralta Community College District is required to verify that all new employees are either a citizen or national of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States, or an alien authorized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service to work in the United States.

District Policy: A Social Security Card will be required following selection and prior to completion of the hiring process.

Position Information

Job Title: Temporary, Part-Time Instructor (Native American Studies)

Time Base: Temporary, as Needed

Compensation: Ranges from $74.53 - $124.41/hour. Salary placement based on education, experience and other provisions outlined in the District's agreement with the Peralta Federation of Teachers.

The Peralta Community College District invites applications for our Temporary, Part-Time Faculty pool in the following discipline:

NATIVE AMERICAN STUDIES

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Native American Studies;
  • OR
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline (e.g. Ethnic Studies, Sociology, American Studies, History, etc.) with an emphasis in Native American Studies;
  • OR
  • May submit a fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach courses in Native American Studies.
  • OR
  • The equivalent qualifications.
  • AND
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
