CPCSC is a Non-PERF District Position Purpose: Direct and manage the district’s transportation and vehicle maintenance program. Oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles. Ensure safe and efficient operation of the Transportation Department with focus on student safety. Essential Functions:
Ability to direct and manage operations of a large fleet of vehicles. Some knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance. Ability to manage budget and personnel. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Possess skills in conflict resolution. Maintain good rapport with staff, parents and community. Oversee the preparation and update of bus routes and schedules for all schools in the district and develop plans to meet future transportation needs. Determine the best mode of transportation for all students, including those with special needs. Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities and special programs. Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Implement federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in transportation area. Implement district’s student discipline policies and communicate to students expected behavior when using district transportation. Implement district focus on Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) systems and processes in the transportation department. Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of transportation department. Oversee the preparation of data necessary to process transportation payroll. Prepare a wide variety of written materials (e.g. bid specifications, correspondence, memos, reports, policy/procedures, budget, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information. Assure repair of all district-owned vehicles and oversee plans for preventive maintenance. Monitor vehicle repair requests and prioritize work orders. Monitor fuel deliveries and distribution. Administer transportation budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective. Initiate purchases and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies. Monitor current inventory of supplies and parts to avoid unnecessary delays. Approve and forward invoices for transportation to business department. Recommend disposal of obsolete vehicles and equipment. Review student behavior reports and conduct conferences with administrators, parents, students, and drivers on disciplinary issues as needed. Enforce student discipline and suspension of riding privileges for any student who violates rules and regulations. Guarantees assignments of bus drivers to routes and find substitutes as needed. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate all transportation personnel and make sound recommendations about placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Prepare, process, and maintain all documents required to verify safety certification and alcohol and drug testing of bus drivers. Advise administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing/delay of school. Help with gathering information in investigations of school bus accidents and student safety incidents. Help organize and conduct training programs to promote a safe work environment. Ensure that transportation equipment is in excellent operating condition. Participate in emergency relief efforts as needed. Attend professional growth activities to stay current with changes in transportation. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent. Qualifications:
High school diploma required, college preferred. Demonstrated leadership experience. Experience in transportation preferred. Experience working with routing software, preferred. Experience in managing people, preferred. CDL (possess/obtain/maintain a yellow card). All other endorsements needed to drive a school bus or willingness to obtain this requirement. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
