Annual Salary Range:
$125,000 to $150,000
Primary Function The Chief School Business Official is responsible for the implementation of Board of Education policies and administrative regulations which relate to business affairs, management and operations of the school district. The Business Manager also serves as a member of the Superintendent's management team and directs the school business operations while supporting the comprehensive program of the entire school district. Further, the Chief School Business Official serves as the District Treasurer.
Minimum Qualifications Possess a Professional Educator License (PEL) with Chief School Business Official Endorsement Strong background and experience in accounting. Fund accounting preferred Minimum of three to five years of successful administrative and leadership experience, while public school experience is preferred Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with district vision, mission, and goals Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with demonstrated attention to detail Proficiency in MS Word and Excel programs. Working knowledge of school information and business software. Experience in supervising and evaluating employees Strong organizational skills and ability to develop team performance Ability to handle multiple priorities in a highly transactional, fast paced environment Has excellent integrity and demonstrates good moral character and initiative Proven ability to communicate and work with people in a teamwork environment Flexible, self-starter with ability to set goals, prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects A working knowledge of school finance regulations and laws Ability to evaluate contracts and develop recommendations for the district Ability to write and maintain federal grants Access to a vehicle for travel to school buildings as needed Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance Duties And Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required: Provide leadership for contract negotiations - prepare negotiation documents; this will be done in collaboration with Human Resources, legal counsel, and the Superintendent Attendance at all Regular Monthly Board of Education meetings is required along with the occasional, as-needed, after normal business hours meetings. Prepare all required financial documents for the monthly regular Board Meetings and the District website Prepare, file and administer the annual budget; serve as lead administrator regarding budget Prepare, file, and administer the annual levy Supervise and evaluate staff under his/her supervision and assume responsibility for all aspects of the Business Office Attend all Board Meetings and prepare such reports for the Board as are appropriate to the primary function and other reports which may be requested by the Superintendent or the Board of Education Prepare the agenda and minutes of the Building & Finance Committee and attend all of their meetings Serve as an administrative liaison to various committees Implementation of Business Office recommendations from recent District Office audit Collaborate, recommend and prepare for strategic planning Provides both short and long range financial planning for the District In collaboration with the Building & Grounds Supervisor, develops, recommends and administers construction projects in the District Collaborates with the Coordinator of Human Resources in the development of recommendations for staffing Prepare and administer all bidding, posting of required legal notices Prepare and administer all vendor contracts Recommend the annual student fees to the Board of Education, and supervise collection of fees Oversee Food Services and Buildings and Grounds Administer all liability insurance programs and attend all insurance cooperative meetings Approve and enter budget codes for all expenditures/revenues Approve all check requests and PO requisitions Invest and report to Board of Education on all investments Manage cash and banking relationships; administer all funds including Student Activity Complete state reporting including but not limited to, Site-based expenditure reporting and transportation claim Serve as the liaison between the District and TRS/IMRF Establish and administer a record keeping system for all funds Supervise the completion of the following reports and transfers monies of all payroll liabilities, payroll processing, and benefits/deductions processing Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent Seniority level
