AFSA Elementary Behavior Specialist

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred training in social work or psychology Experience working/volunteering with youth ages 5-14 EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce behavior expectations Assists the teachers in devising, creating and implementing behavior plans for reinforcing student behaviors Assists staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents Works cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing positive behavior support in a school setting Promotes highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which "at risk" students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice Assists with the supervision of students during classes, project time, assemblies, field trips, meetings, lunchtime and before and after school Continually supervises students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teacher Participate in in-service trainings as requested Assist in maintaining daily behavior documentation for students Communicate with parents in coordination with teacher/supervisor Establishes a supportive and positive relationship with the student without fostering or encouraging an intense emotional relationship Provides recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors Serves as a resource person during student evaluations Other duties as assigned AFSA is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
