Schedule: Monday- Friday 8AM-4PM

Job Summary

The Custodian will clean and maintain the school or other educational facility.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Duties/Responsibilities

1. Performs general cleaning and janitorial duties in the common areas of the building.
2. Performs minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes.
3. Assists in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and cafeteria.
4. Performs limited grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming lawns and hedges and cleaning snow from sidewalks.
5. Ensures heating and cooling systems are operational, reports deficiencies to Facilities Director and Principal.
6. Maintains a neat and orderly janitors’ room; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
7. Washes windows.
8. Assists in examining school for safety hazards, reports deficiencies to Facilities Director and Principal.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

1. Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
2. Detail-oriented and thorough.
3. Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
4. Ability to keep the school clean and orderly.
5. Ability to interact with staff, students, parents, and visitors at school while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.
6. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
7. Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
8. Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
9. Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
10. Ability to work independently using organizational systems and techniques.
11. Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
12. Required to work in standard school conditions and various climate conditions.
13. Required to work according to assigned schedule.
14. Required to lift or carry furniture, equipment, and supplies.
15. Understand and abide by the Archdiocese of Detroit contract for employment and the specifications it contains regarding the expectations of a Catholic school employee.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Must pass a background check.

Physical Requirements

1. Prolonged periods standing.
2. Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
