The Field Technical Service Specialist is an important part of the PUPI customer support experience, providing expertise to connect the product capabilities of fiberglass composite crossarms and distribution poles with the realities of installation and use in the field. This position works closely with the personnel at our utility customers responsible for line design and construction, assisting them with how to utilize our products and best practices for installing them. This role will consult with customers on PUPI product capabilities and installation best practices to drive adoption in the field, while communicating customer experiences back to the internal PUPI team for evaluation. Our ideal candidate understands the process through which Electric Utilities evaluate, pilot, and adopt new overhead distribution materials, and can work collaboratively with our Sales, Marketing, and Applications Engineering Teams to drive customer acceptance and use of PUPI products. Essential Functions Field Technical Support
Understand and operate within all customer, worksite, and GEOTEK safety guidelines at all Provide on-site knowledge and support to line crews installing PUPI crossarms and Understand and communicate unique considerations for installing fiberglass composite products in-field, via phone, and through training seminars, to help streamline adoption of PUPI Attend customer installations and pilots, compiling feedback and ideas to communicate to internal engineering and product development teams. Evaluate customer feedback regarding the field use of new products, identifying normal resistance to change versus material concerns that may slow or stop further adoption. Coordinate with PUPI sales team and manufacturer representatives to attend key end-user installations, customer events, and design meetings. Become the subject matter expert on PUPI product lines and their practical, in-field use considerations, capabilities, and installation best practices. Assist in assessing field concerns and returns, providing insight to quality investigation
Overhead Distribution Line Design Assistance
Work with customer line design teams, PUPI Application Engineering, and other stakeholders to help identify the correct products for specific projects and applications. With Applications Engineering, utilize common industry design software (PLS, Pole Forman, SpidaCalc, etc) to assist in product acceptability and selection. In collaboration with Sales and Engineering, work as a liaison between customer personnel in standards, design, and line construction as it relates to driving adoption of PUPI products.
Fiberglass Composite Distribution Pole Launch Support
Work closely with the Distribution Pole Development team to develop customer-focused installation guides, data sets, and other tools needed to launch a fiberglass distribution Provide guidance on typical field-use of distribution poles, and considerations that may be needed to ensure ease-of-installation for our product. Attend customer pilots and get direct feedback from line crews on their initial impressions and experiences with PUPI distribution poles.
Required Skills
Minimum educational requirements is an associates degree, preferably in a technical field, bachelors degree is desired. Ability to build strong and trusting relationships at customers, specifically with those personnel designing with and installing our products. Become a "go-to" resource for problem solving. Strong understanding of how overhead distribution products are specified, evaluated, installed, and adopted by electric utilities - both Investor-Owned and Public Power. Ability to comprehend technical drawings, assembly guides, and schematics and apply them to real- world scenarios. Demonstrated capability of successful cross-departmental collaboration, possessing the ability to understand multiple points of view in order to create solutions that meet both customer and company needs. 7+ years' experience working cross-functionally at an electric utility company; possessing knowledge of material standards, operations, line design, and in-field construction teams and how they Demonstrated practical experience with overhead distribution field installations (directly or in support) is required. Good communication skills both verbal and written; including the ability to explain installation techniques to customers and to capture field learnings back to our business. Familiarity with common line design software including PLS, Pole Forman, SpidaCalc, and O- Strong desire to work and win as a team in a collaborative culture, engaging with other departments to design and execute customer strategies that allow us to successfully grow our business through customer value creation.
Physical Work Conditions
A majority of the time will be spent at customer facilities or attending in-field installations, necessitating the ability to navigate job site terrain and be outdoors potentially during inclement weather.
This position is remote based in the continental USA.
This position requires a significant amount of domestic travel (2-3 days/week, 3 weeks/month)
