POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Director of Operations/Plant Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our cosmetic manufacturing facility. This key leadership role will manage the production, quality control, supply chain, and maintenance departments, ensuring efficient operations, optimal productivity, and adherence to the highest industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cosmetic manufacturing, operations management, and leadership in a fast-paced production environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Operations Management:
Oversee the daily operations of the cosmetic manufacturing plant, ensuring production goals and timelines are met.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize productivity, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency.
Coordinate the manufacturing schedule to ensure the timely and cost-effective production of products.
Lead and manage production teams to ensure safe, high-quality, and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure all products meet company and regulatory quality standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), FDA, ISO22716, and other relevant industry standards.
Develop and implement quality control processes to maintain product consistency and safety.
Oversee audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with all industry regulations.
Manage product testing and troubleshooting processes to resolve production issues quickly.
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team across operations, production, and support functions.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and accountability.
Conduct regular performance reviews and implement training programs to develop staff skills and capabilities.
Maintain a focus on employee safety and ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
Budgeting & Cost Management:
Develop and manage the annual budget for the plant, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising product quality or safety.
Monitor financial performance and work with the finance team to address any variances from budget.
Supply Chain & Inventory Management:
Oversee the management of raw materials, finished goods inventory, and distribution logistics to ensure production continuity and meet demand.
Collaborate with procurement teams to maintain strong relationships with suppliers and ensure timely delivery of materials.
Implement inventory control procedures to minimize waste and optimize storage.
Process Improvement & Innovation:
Lead process optimization initiatives by evaluating production workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending technological and procedural improvements.
Implement lean manufacturing techniques and continuous improvement practices to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Keep abreast of the latest cosmetic manufacturing trends and technologies to drive innovation within the plant.
Reporting & Communication:
Regularly report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, product quality, safety, and cost performance.
Communicate effectively with senior management, providing updates on plant performance, challenges, and potential risks.
Prepare and present reports on operational performance and improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 7-10 years in a leadership or management role in a cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
Experience in ERP, MRP systems or other production management software.
Certification in Quality Management or Manufacturing processes (e.g., Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, ISO).
Skills/Abilities:
Strong understanding of cosmetic manufacturing processes, GMP, and industry standards.
Proven experience managing large teams, including hiring, training, and performance management.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and achieve cost efficiencies.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Ability to drive change and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, chemicals, and machinery.
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the plant for extended periods.
Occasional lifting of materials or products up to 75 pounds.
