The Estate and Probate Paralegal will assist attorneys in all aspects of estate planning, probate, and trust administration. This position requires strong organizational skills, an in-depth understanding of probate processes, and the ability to manage multiple matters with precision and care. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in handling estate and probate matters, be detail-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Assist attorneys with the preparation, drafting, and review of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and other estate planning documents.
- Manage probate and heirship proceedings from start to finish, including filing petitions with the court, preparing necessary documents, and ensuring compliance with all court deadlines and legal requirements.
- Maintain and organize files
- Coordinate with court personnel and other professionals to ensure the timely administration of estates.
- Assist in the administration of trusts, including handling distributions, asset transfers, and preparing accountings for beneficiaries.
- Draft and file petitions for probate, requests for hearings, and other legal documents as needed.
- Communicate with clients, beneficiaries, and family members to provide updates and information regarding estate and probate matters.
- Research and assist with the interpretation of estate planning documents, trust agreements, and other related legal documents.
- Prepare and file reports, inventories, and other required documents with the court or relevant agencies.
- Track important case deadlines and ensure that necessary filings and responses are completed on time.
- Assist with the preparation of estate and gift tax returns, if applicable.
- Support attorneys with estate and trust litigation matters, including preparing exhibits, correspondence, and trial documents.
- Handle confidential and sensitive client information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an Estate and Probate Paralegal, with a focus on estate planning, probate, trust administration and heirship matters.
- Strong knowledge of probate court procedures, estate planning laws, and trust administration.
- Experience with the preparation of estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, attorneys, and third parties.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and filing documents.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of Texas probate laws and regulations is preferred.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
