Qualifications:
Graduate from an accredited school of respiratory therapy
Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered by the State of Minnesota (CRT Licensure)
Three years previous experience within a critical care/ED environment preferred
Job Responsibilities:
Provides respiratory care to patients at the hospital:
Ventilator
Bipap/Cpap
Incentive spirometry
Aerosol/MDI treatments
NT suctioning
ET suctioning
CPT/PEP therapy
Monitors patient's physiological response to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial, and venous blood gases. Consults with the hospitalist if adverse reactions occur.
Works as a team in a multidisciplinary environment to provide care and provide recommendations for appropriate therapy.
Assists with monitoring the central station for end tidal CO2 and SPO2 of patients.
Educates patients and families about their conditions and teaches appropriate disease management techniques.
Works with patients and families to set up home oxygen therapy.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
Responds to all rapid response and codes called within the hospital with appropriate equipment.
Monitors respiratory supplies and equipment as needed.
Monitors EHR for accurate charging of respiratory related supplies, equipment, and oxygen use.
Monitors compliance for charting incentive spirometry for all healthcare personnel.
Makes rounds within the hospital departments to assess any future patient respiratory care needs, communicates with charge nurses and house supervisors.
Checks respiratory equipment and supplies for availability and outdates.
Assists in the development and implementation of respiratory policies, procedures, and protocols.
Monitors respiratory supplies and equipment as needed.
Monitors EHR for accurate charging of respiratory related supplies, equipment, and oxygen use.
Monitors compliance for charting incentive spirometry for all healthcare personnel.
Other duties as assigned.
