The Information Governance (IG) Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-wide data governance, data retention, records management, and overall information governance framework. This role will ensure that data is classified, stored, and retained in alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal policies. The IG Director will work closely with IT, Legal, Compliance, HR, and Business Leadership to establish policies and procedures that mitigate risks while enabling efficient and secure information management. Essential Job Responsibilities Information Governance Strategy & Leadership Develop and implement the organization's information governance framework, policies, and procedures. Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve data classification, data retention, and records management. Serve as the primary point of contact for data governance, data retention, and data lifecycle management issues. Data Governance & Retention Policy Development Design, implement, and maintain a data retention and deletion policy aligned with legal, regulatory, and business requirements. Establish processes to operationalize data retention policies, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, contractual obligations, and internal policies. Collaborate with IT and business units to classify data, define retention schedules, and ensure proper archiving, deletion, or disposal. Maintain a Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) and ensure data lifecycle practices align with privacy and security policies. Compliance, Risk, and Privacy Oversight Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, AI Governance frameworks). Address data privacy risks and regulatory changes. Develop and deliver training programs on data governance and records management best practices. Support internal and external audits related to data governance and records management. Collaboration & Change Management Facilitate cross-functional meetings with IT, Legal, Compliance, HR, and Business Leadership to align on data governance initiatives. Drive change management efforts to foster a culture of accountability in data handling. Lead discussions and brainstorming sessions on data governance topics, including operationalization and best practices. Technology & AI Readiness Partner with IT to assess and implement information governance tools, data loss prevention strategies, and AI-driven compliance solutions. Support AI Readiness Assessments by ensuring governance frameworks align with AI deployment and compliance requirements. Qualifications & Requirements Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Law, Business Administration, IT, or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree in Information Technology or a related field. Experience 5+ years of experience in information governance, records management, data privacy, compliance, or a related field. Strong understanding of data retention laws, industry regulations, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, ISO 27001). Experience implementing data retention policies, classification frameworks, and records management systems. Knowledge of enterprise IT systems, data lifecycle management, and automation tools for data governance. Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional initiatives. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into business-friendly guidance. Physical Requirements Ability to work in an office environment and perform tasks that may require sitting, standing, and using office equipment. The Compensation range for this role is 102,632.40 - 205,264.80 USD annually and may be eligible for an annual bonus. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's location, skills, experience and qualifications.
