Community Outreach Programs Manager - Center for Law & Social Justice POSITION DETAILS Medgar Evers College (Medgar), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. The Center for Law and Social Justice (CLSJ) is a unit of Medgar that envisions a civically educated and engaged electorate within marginalized communities that consistently builds political power to marshal the representation and resources necessary for its communities to thrive. CLSJ provides effective legal advocacy, conducts community education campaigns, facilitates research and builds organizing capacity on behalf of the disenfranchised. Founded in 1986, CLSJ provides

legal advocacy, community education, research, and organizing support

on critical social justice issues in New York City and beyond. The

CLSJ Program Attorney

(CUNY Title:

Community Outreach and Legal Advocacy Programs Manager ) plays a key role in advancing the Center's mission by combining

legal expertise, program management, and community engagement

to support CLSJ’s advocacy and education efforts. Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and implementation of the

Esmeralda Simmons Pre-Law Preparatory Program , including program design, evaluation, and strategic recommendations. Develop and execute short- and long-term goals for CLSJ’s programs, ensuring alignment with the Center’s mission and community needs. Represent CLSJ in legal matters. Supervise the

Pre-Law Preparatory Program team , providing leadership and guidance to staff and program participants. Collaborate with CLSJ leadership to design and implement a comprehensive

community outreach plan , engaging individuals, organizations, and partners in support of the Center’s work. Assist in planning and executing

forums, conferences, and special events

that promote CLSJ’s mission and priorities. Participate in

fundraising and development activities

to sustain and expand the Center’s programs. Ideal candidates will have a passion for

social justice , experience in

legal advocacy and community organizing , and a commitment to empowering communities through

education and capacity building . QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required. Other qualifications: Juris Doctor

from an

accredited law school and six years' related experience required. Must be licensed to practice law in New York State and be in good standing. - A minimum of three years state and federal litigation on civil rights cases. - Administrative and supervisory experience a must. - Prior experience with community-based organization or institutions preferred. - Public interest litigation experience required. CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Manages a program or service providing community outreach and services on behalf of a College or Unit. Defines program goals, objectives, risks, and roles and responsibilities. Collaborates with external organizations and community stakeholders to plan and execute program activities. Develops and delivers direct service to external clientele. Collects data on outcomes, and analyzes and reports results while planning new and improved services. May manage an office staff of employees and/or volunteers, and have responsibility for fiscal administration. Performs related duties as assigned.
