MNIT Commerce staff support energy and telecom regulation and permitting, bank and insurance regulation, and work on regulatory issues around Minnesota’s energy sector. The MNIT Commerce team also supports the Public Utilities Commission and Boards.
The Power Platform Developer will play a vital role in modernizing and enhancing the department’s digital tools and processes by designing, developing, and implementing custom Power Platform solutions. This position will focus on replacing legacy Microsoft Access applications, with innovative, user-friendly, and secure Power Apps that streamline workflows and improve data integration across the department. The developer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, design solutions, and ensure the successful deployment of applications that align with the department's operational and strategic goals.
The developer implements solutions in accordance with MNIT Software Development Life Cycle and follows standard application development best practices, and participates in peer code reviews, technical demos, cross-training, mentorship, and knowledge transfer. The position requires developing products adhering to current accessibility (WCAG) guidelines and MNIT accessibility policies.
This position is highly visible to partner agency staff at all levels and is expected to establish and maintain strong relationships. The candidate will regularly engage with deputy commissioners/senior leaders, product owners, subject matter experts, and end users.
This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:
Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in Microsoft Power Platform development.
Experience must include:
Experience and the ability to design, develop, and implement Power Platform solutions, including workflows and integrations.
Experience and understanding of Power Platform security best practices, data governance, and compliance policies.
Experience and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, optimize workflows, and improve system performance.
Experience conducting peer code reviews focused on knowledge transfer and skill building.
Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience integrating Power Platform solutions with SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, or Dynamics 365.
Knowledge of ETL processes, APIs, and external system integration using Power Platform connectors.
Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub, or similar tools for source control, deployment pipelines, and release management.
Ability to design interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI or Tableau to enhance data visualization.
Experience in monitoring, debugging, and optimizing Power Platform applications for performance and efficiency.
