Metro Community Health Centers' (MCHC's) mission is to deliver high quality primary and specialty medical, dental, rehabilitative and behavioral health services to patients of all ages and abilities, including those with chronic health conditions, in culturally sensitive environments, without discrimination or regard to ability to pay.

MCHC is a not-for-profit network of five (5) Federally Qualified Health Centers providing comprehensive health care services to under-served populations, including patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as others with medically and behaviorally complex needs. Currently, MCHC is seeking a part-time Psychiatrist to join our team of professionals in our Staten Island location.

Position Duties Include:

  1. Conducts initial assessments to include review of intake material, psychiatric history, and psychiatric evaluation in the traditional clinical medical manner. Psychiatric diagnosis and recommendations are made and conveyed to the patient and/or caregiver.
  2. Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the patient and/or caregiver by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishing treatment goals and methodologies.
  3. Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients and/or caregivers; providing instructions; providing and monitoring effect of medications.
  4. Maintains records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events; writing summaries in the electronic medical records.
  5. Involved in interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
  6. Involved with all quality initiatives at MCHC including peer reviews and attendance at provider meetings.
  7. Undertakes tasks and initiatives as assigned.
  8. Will collaborate with Psychiatric NPs adhering to NY State Education requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, you must possess a degree (MD) from a recognized school with a specialty in Psychiatry and be currently licensed and registered as a Psychiatrist/Physician with the New York State Education Department. BLS Certification required. Child and Adolescent background preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
