PositionOverview:
The Respiratory Therapy Student Technician provides fundamentals of respiratory care (i.e. personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines, a plan of care established by a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and under the direct supervision of the Respiratory Therapy staff.

Education:Must be currently enrolled or an unlicensed new graduate of an accredited, state approved, Respiratory Therapy program.
License:N/A
Certification:Must complete BCLS certification by the end of position orientation. Must maintain current BCLS certification.
Experience:None
Reports to:Respiratory Therapist responsible for patient care management/patient care during a shift and Respiratory Care Manager on a 24-hour basis.
Supervises :None.
Physical Demands:Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physicalmotions in performing day-to-day activities. Must be able to stand for extendedperiods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing unduefatigue. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normalspeaking levels, with or without correction. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate toexpress/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on thetelephone. Work requires a minimumstandard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability toadjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze fromviewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at closevision. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 6-7 ½ hrs per 8 hrshift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines.
Mental Demands:Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
Special Demands:Must possess superior customer serviceskills and professional etiquette. Mustpossess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboardproficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.). Must have intermediate knowledge of MSOutlook and Word.
