Medical Assistant - Ophthalmology/Refractive Surgery (Coverage)

Position Duties and Responsibilities:Primarily working at the front desk with MA dutiesNotify patients regarding abnormal lab work as directed.Organize, file, create and retrieve medical records according to clinic guidelines.Make patient appointments by phone and with the use of MHS Genesis or other method as prescribed by the MTF DirectorAdvise and assist Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries concerning the MHS benefits and eligibility for the refractive surgery programs.Provide information and guidance to patients seeking or obtaining services from military medical treatment facilities, TRICARE Service Centers, civilian health care facilities, Veterans Affairs facilities, TRICARE, MEDICARE, MEDICAID and other Government health care programs.Maintain a depository of up-to-date information as received from the Department of Defense (DOD) referral hospital on the availability of outpatient appointments within each specialty clinic for all categories of beneficiaries.Assist patients with answering TRICARE referral questions and status of Refractive Surgery consult submissions.Serve as a liaison between the patients and components of the MHS.Provide patient instructions according to the provider's orders and give health promotion material to patients according to the Clinic routine. Code procedures in EMR and scan various documents and notes into patient EMR records as directed. Assist with preop preparation for PRK/LASIK surgery patients, to include going over discharge instructions with patients and putting in eye drops.Schedule patient appointments, perform appointment reminder functions, and contact patients regarding reports, as directed.Carry out a variety of receptionist, record keeping, and clerical tasks, as required, to assist personnel who are dedicated to performance of these duties. Examples of these duties include check-in procedures upon patient presentation to the Clinic, and retrieval of patient records and reports required for the encounter.Receive telephone, personal, or written requests for medical treatment, determine the nature of the patient's request by questioning the patient about the type and duration of symptoms and prior treatment received. Based on the information garnered from the patient, the medical assistant refers the inquiring party to appropriate clinic staff following established clinic policies and procedures and refers patients for immediate treatment when acute symptoms are described.Keep specific logs of patients seen daily and assist in compiling reports of morbidity.Minimum Qualifications:
Possess a minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 3 years.Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.Be a graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), OR the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists, OR a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, OR other formal program as specified in the position specific Task Order, OR other formal program approved by the MTF.Must be a US Citizen.Potomac Healthcare Solutions offers the following benefits:
