Senior Associate Dean for Education , which reports to the SOM Dean andleads the SOM medical student and health professions programs and SOMeducational initiatives. The remaining .20 FTE in the candidate'sdepartment. We are seeking an

The

Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the oversight of all medical education programs housed in the School of Medicine (SOM)Provide guidance, support, and mentoring for leaders of all SOM education programsAdvocate for education with stakeholders and leadership at the highest levels of administrationPromote evidenced based learner-centered instructionLead and maintain accreditation for all programsCollaboratively develop and implement strategic plans for education programs, in alignment with updated SOM andHSC strategic plan and goalsWorks in collaboration with leaders of the BA/MD programWorks in collaboration with leaders of the MD/PhD programOversight and Support of CQI and self-study process for MD program LCME accreditation, in collaboration with CQI Director, UME Associate, and Assistant Deans, Student Affairs Associate and AssistantDeans, Office of Admissions Associate and Assistant Deans, Director of LearningEnvironment Office, Chief Wellness Officer, and SOM Office for Diversity.Oversight and Support Assistant Dean, Office of Education and Health Profession programs with accreditation for Health Professions programsSupport an education leadership team including Associate and Assistant Deans, Directors, Health Professionsprogram Directors, and senior administrative staffDevelop, implement, and evaluate performance goals and outcome measures for associate and assistant deans andprogram directors/leaders in educationEnsure strong integration of community-based programs through the Preceptorship Office, Office of CommunityFaculty, Rural and Urban Under-served Program, BA/MD, and community-basedsite preceptors for both Health Professions students and MDstudents.Authority and responsibility for financial and administrative operations in Office of Education, includingdiscretionary spending focused toward highest priority needs. Ensure thatrequests are prioritized and included at time of yearly budget development.Work with EDO and the Chief Wellness Officer to promote the inclusion of DEI/anti-racism and well-being across theSOMPromote learner centered instruction, emphasizing evidence-based education pedagogyMeet with Department Chairs (at least yearly) and Vice Chairs for Education regularly (quarterly as a group andindividually as needed) to update on curriculum and facultydevelopment opportunities, share data on departmental participation, ensureadequate contribution, ensure engagement in faculty educationaldevelopment, enhance educational scholarship and continuing focus on student progress in the MD curriculumEnsure UME and Health Profession's involvement in LEO (Learning Environment Office). Work collaborativelywith LEO staff in addressing learning environment issues.Advocate with health system leadership for learners in clinical settings at Health System entities.Work collaboratively with the Office of Professional Well-beingFlexibility in adapting to new educational strategiesThe UNM Health Sciences Center islocated in the high desert community of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is also part of the State's flagshipinstitution for higher education. Exposureto a wide variety of educational opportunities, outdoor activities, and diverseexperiences makes Albuquerque a special place to call home. Abundant recreational opportunities existwithin our diverse and culturally rich city. Albuquerque enjoys a temperate climate with 310 days of sunshine as wellas four distinct seasons.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
MD, DO or equivalent medical degreeDemonstrated expertise appropriate for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor in the University of New Mexico, School of MedicineFive years of leadership experience in medical education (either preclinical or clinical)PreferredQualifications:
Demonstrated record of accomplishment in program development and innovationLeadership and management skills, ability to create a shared visionExperience working with a diverse group of professionals and studentsSuccessful advocacy for resourcesExceptional communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and teamwork.Interpersonal skills as evidenced by student, resident, or faculty advisement and mentoringPrevious service on a SOM education committeeEngagement with regional and national educational leaders and experts (e.g. LCME, AAMC involvement, discipline, or specialty based education programs)Successful collaborations with other departments and programsParticipation in the LCME or other accreditation processesExperience or interest in educational scholarshipDemonstrated understanding of New Mexico values, strengths, and healthcare needs/opportunitiesKnowledge of new educational platforms, technologies, and best practicesDemonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion of student, faculty, and staff success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
