Overview:

Provide an advanced level of comprehensive dental care of pediatric, adolescent, and special needs patients under the direction of the Director of Dental Services. Provide patient care and treatment consistent with the mission and values of CommUnityCare Health Centers within the scope of practice, professional, and regulatory standards of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners and the Joint Commission. Pediatric dentists shall work with a highly collaborative extended care team to deliver top-of-license patient-centered care while optimizing access to the patient population we serve. While promoting highly reliable preventive and minimally invasive treatments of dental disease, the pediatric dentist shall have the ability and experience to perform invasive treatments with the appropriate level of sedation. Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive dental services for patients ages 6 months to 18 years, which includes examinations, cleanings, risk assessments, treatment planning, oral cancer screenings, preventive treatments (including home care and diet recommendations), composite restorations, pit and fissure sealants, stainless steel crowns, extractions, pulp therapy to include pulpotomy/pulpectomy/pulp caps, minor oral surgery, space maintenance, behavior management, anxiety control, and other required procedures. Accurately and completely report and document status, care rendered, response to care, provider orders, and contacts with patient and/or other healthcare providers. Maintain patient follow up procedures. Respond to inquires by clients and staff on dental health and on provided treatments. Directly affect improvements in patient well-being through accurate and timely diagnosis and delivery of relevant, high quality dental care. Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and CommUnityCare Standard Operating Procedures and CommUnityCare Policies and Procedures. Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co-workers, including clinical managers, clinical support staff, providers and business office staff. Interact respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families, striving to develop favorable relationships with families. Collaborate with all members of the extended care team in providing patient-centered care in a high-volume clinical setting. Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent CommUnityCare in a highly professional manner at all times. Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all company policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization. Complete all mandatory training and maintain appropriate credentials/licensure. Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: High level of skill at building relationships and providing excellent customer service. Interpersonal savvy and influence skills in managing difficult clients and patients. High degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry. Requisite skills and ability to perform certain dental tasks as assigned. High level of problem solving skill to better serve patients and staff. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to implement, and evaluate operational and administrative processes. Experience/knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation process and requirements, as well as all federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a Federally Qualified Health Center. Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) environment. Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in an integrated delivery environment. Demonstrated expertise in relevant dental practices, protocol, trends and best practices. Demonstrated knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations. Proficiency in the use of a computer, software packages, and office machines Qualifications: MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited dental school with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree PREFERRED EDUCATION: Pediatric certificate from an accredited US Dental School. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 year dental practice, post dental school, in a practice focusing on comprehensive pediatric dental care. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Conscious sedation and hospital-based dental treatment REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Unrestricted licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Texas Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for the purpose of writing prescriptions. Level I and Level II Sedation certification in the State of Texas.
