Description
The advanced level class works under direction and requires thorough knowledge of Ohio Administrative and Revised Codes for construction or alterations; familiarity with other related codes and reference standards for reviewing architectural and engineering plans to determine compliance with Ohio State Basic Building codes.
Normal Working Hours: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:30pm.

Examines & reviews plans, specifications, drawings of buildings, structures & alterations or changes to be made in existing structures of commercial & residential construction; evaluates proposed building plans to ensure that proposed construction complies with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, environmental, floor hazard, energy, handicap requirements & related codes.
Researches codes & ordinances; researches problems & complaints regarding commercial & residential buildings, building construction & code compliance; responds to complex & sensitive building issues regarding complaints involving commercial and residential buildings, building construction and code compliance. Keeps current on code requirements & new developments in architectural & engineering fields through reading technical journals & coursework.
Explains, interprets and provides guidance regarding applicable Building Codes requirements for design professionals, architects, engineers, developers, property owners, contractors & other interested parties. Visits construction sites when necessary to resolve problems.
Represents department in hearings before the Board of Building Appeals; provides necessary details to explain justifications for disapproval actions.
Performs others duties of a similar nature or level as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or closely related field; valid Ohio Driver's License.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the education and/or experience required. Education and Experience may not be substituted for mandated licensure/certification.
POSITION SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: State of Ohio Registration as an Architect or Engineer; Ohio State Board of Building Standards Certification as a Class II Plans Examiner.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Predictable and regular attendance is required.
Exposed to dirt, odor &/or adverse weather. Travel may be required.
Stooping, crouching, reaching, repetitive motion. Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally to lift carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

The County pays 80% of the health care premium and 39% of the dental premium. All full-time employees are eligible for $50,000 group life insurance paid 100% by the County.

Employees who are non-permanent, seasonal, intermittent, part-time scheduled for less than 60 hours per pay period, and external interim, are not benefit eligible.
