Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I), the incumbent engages in a diverse range of analytical and technical tasks to support the infrastructure of the Legislative Data Center (LDC). This role involves maintaining and analyzing production environments, addressing issues, executing backup and recovery procedures, as well as managing the testing, scheduling, and integration of software enhancements for both applications and system components.Responsibilities encompass monitoring and resolving challenges within the production computing setups, overseeing system logs to detect operational security incidents, managing client/server systems, and administering the computer room, network, environmental, and peripheral equipment. The role demands a keen awareness of industry security standards and advancements to ensure adherence and ongoing enhancement within a controlled setting.

The incumbent will be assigned to either of two shifts (swing and grave shifts) and may work a five-day workweek inclusive of Saturdays and/or Sundays. Flexibility in working hours and the ability to work overtime are essential to provide round-the-clock coverage that aligns with the business requirements of LDC's clientele.

Department InformationThe Office of Legislative Counsel (OLC) is a small civil service department whose mission is to provide responsive nonpartisan and confidential legal services and information technology support services to the California State Legislature and in support of the legislative process. This position is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

A minimum of three (3) year of basic experience being responsible for the availability of client/server systems, subsystems and applications. A minimum of two (2) year of basic experience in trouble-shooting in support of Windows, UNIX and USS environments. Basic knowledge of FTP and SFTP or similar scheduling applications. Well-versed in cross-platform support. Experience with monitoring tools, such as VMware, HPSIM, SCOM and Modius. Demonstrated experience in monitoring the following environments: system backups, computer room, environmental room, reviewing security events in system logs, managing, and maintaining production data processing environments. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications, such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Access. Basic knowledge and experience with Windows, UNIX, Linux and USS environments. Ability to create a service-oriented culture among organizational entities and staff to provide a high level of service to customers. Demonstrated ability to resolve problems in a quick and efficient manner. Ability to execute precise actions through appropriate communications and change controls. Ability to accurately read, interpret and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures. Writing skills to create professional data processing documents including, but not limited to problem analyses, status reports, business letters, procedures and system and process documentation. Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with managers, leads, customers, staff and vendors. Ability to prioritize assignments and multitask. Ability to analyze data and situations effectively, reason logically and creatively, draw valid conclusions, develop effective solutions and use a variety of analytical techniques and resources to resolve problems. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply new technologies to information technology problems. General knowledge of principles, capabilities, procedures and operation of electronic computer systems and related peripheral equipment. General knowledge of multiple platform operating systems and subsystems messages and commands to monitor and operate the systems. Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner. Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines. Ability to work as a team member to accomplish group projects and assignments.

Your Expertise

Your Responsibilities

Perform a variety of analytical and technical activities in support of the network and environmental areas.Perform daily validations for various applications and systems; perform maintenance upgrades and patching after hours.Assist with internal and external security audit requests and produce management reports on access monitoring and controls.Monitor environmental environments such as Computer room, Generator room, UPS room, Condenser area, Network closets at LDC, LOB, Capitol and LCB.Maintain professional internal/external relationships that meet the organization's core values.Work overtime when required to meet workload demands while working cooperatively with teams, peers and management.Manage and maintain a schedule of work to ensure operational services, projects and daily deliverables are completed within agreed timeframes.Manage, generate, assess, oversee, and refresh system and process documentation.
