Suffolk University invites qualified candidates to apply for our Staff Psychologist/Counselor opening. The Staff Psychologist/Counselor is responsible for providing direct psychological counseling services and psycho-educational outreach programs to undergraduate, graduate, and law students as part of an integrated Counseling, Health and Wellness Center. This is a 20 hour per week position.

PRIMARY/PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides short-term psychological counseling services to students in individual and group modalities; psychological assessments, development of short-term treatment plans, urgent care behavioral risk assessments via Center walk-ins, case management, and off-campus referrals; serves in after-hours on-call service @4 weeks/year.

Provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students in order to address student high-risk behaviors and student/community holistic health concerns.

Maintains timely and thorough client contact documentation compliant with Center policies and procedures and applicable state laws.

Provides psycho-educational and holistic health outreach programs to students, faculty, and staff in collaboration with the Center’s Outreach Team.

Attends weekly Center and supervision meetings; attends monthly Student Affairs meetings as available.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

D., Ed.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or MSW.

Current license as a psychologist or LICSW in Massachusetts.

Training and experience in providing short-term psychotherapy, group therapy, and crisis response for diverse adolescents and young adults, preferably with college and university students.

Experience and demonstrated knowledge regarding work with adolescents and young adults from multicultural and diverse backgrounds, preferably on a college campus.

Interest in the application and integration of social justice in counseling center work.

Demonstrated ability to assess and treat students with a broad range of diagnoses.

Strong student service orientation.

Availability to attend occasional evening or weekend activities and/or provide a program.
