Astrobotic Technology, Inc. is a space robotics company that seeks to make space accessible to the world. The company’s suite of lunar landers delivers payloads to the Moon for companies, governments, universities, non-profits, and individuals. The company is also developing advanced space robotics capabilities such as terrain relative navigation, mobile robotics for lunar surface operations, and reliable computing systems for mission-critical applications. Originally spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, Astrobotic is pioneering affordable planetary access that promises to spark a new era of exploration, science, tourism, resource utilization, and mining. Astrobotic’s headquarters is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a second location in Mojave, California.

Astrobotic Technology wants you to capture new business for our burgeoning Space Robotics department, which is pioneering sensing, perception, and autonomy for space robotic systems in the Earth orbit, cislunar, and lunar surface space domains. The Director will provide vision and leadership to craft new sales offerings for government and commercial space markets; identify and pursue potential customers; own and manage the budget for capture pursuits; coordinate and lead sales efforts between the business development and technical teams; lead negotiations with customers; and ultimately close on new contracts.

The Director will report to the Vice President of Business Development and interface with the company’s Space Robotics department and business development team.

Job Responsibilities

Formulate product and service offerings for technologies developed by Space RoboticsIdentify, pursue, educate, and sign new customersManage the bid and proposal budget for Space Robotics capture effortsSeed new contracting opportunities with government and commercial customersDevelop customer-facing Space Robotics sales materialsDevelop and execute capture strategies for government solicitationsDevelop price models for government and commercial solicitation responsesInform and guide proposal development with win strategies, and contribute proposal sales content to the proposal development team where appropriateManage and execute on the proposal submission goals for Space RoboticsMaintain and develop an awareness of the customer and competitive environments as well as stay abreast of customer needs, industry trends, and competitive offeringsContribute to internal discussion and analysis of the external environment as part of the company’s strategic assessments and resulting business activitiesContribute to company messaging activities in support of marketing and branding efforts, as well as media outreachTravel to visit potential customers and strategic partnersAssist in customer and stakeholder visits to Astrobotic facilitiesContribute information to customer relationship management tracking in the companyOther duties that support the expansion of this growing, entrepreneurial company

Required Skills & Qualifications

BA/BS with 4+ years of experience in the space industryFamiliarity with business development processes and practicesAwareness of and familiarity with the government and commercial satellite communitiesA demonstrated track record of sales success in space or technical salesAbility to establish a strong rapport with the Astrobotic team and the customer communityExperience with or training in a business environmentPersonal comfort in a professional settingTrack record of developing marketing collateral for new productsExcellent communication and negotiation skillsAbility to deliver engaging presentationsAbility to identify opportunities, create a business plan, qualify targets, assess decision-makers, and prioritize sales efforts

An engineering or technical background a strong plus

Salary Range: $85,000- $140,000The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and the candidates professional experience. Base salary is just one component of Astrobotic’s competitive total rewards strategy.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
