Job Summary :
The Director of Employee Relations reports to the Systems Chief Human Resources Officer. The Director of Employee Relations is a part of the Human Resources Leadership team for the Health System. The Employee Relations Director provides leadership, consultative recommendations, and support for the employee relations and employee experience functions for the Erlanger Health System. This individual promotes positive employee relations throughout the organization by ensuring development and implementation of consistent and equitable processes, providing guidance on best practices, identifying solutions and diffusing issues to mitigate risk, and maintaining legal compliance.
Job Duties:
• Provides vision and critical leadership to manage the Employee Relations function in support of the values, mission, and culture of Erlanger Health System.
• Manages and coaches team to encourage continual development and awareness of employment law updates and briefings in support of advancing team member subject matter knowledge and consulting expertise.
• Partner with leadership to establish a vision for the employee experience at Erlanger.
• Implement a strategy that effectively engages and inspires a workforce to deliver their best performance.
• Manages and coaches team to encourage continual development and awareness of employment law updates and briefings in support of advancing team member subject matter knowledge and consulting expertise
• Provides direction to proactively identify risks, diffuse issues, provide employee and management consultation, conduct investigations, and resolve issues as they arise
• Develops positive business relationships with employees and key executive stakeholders through ensuring that employee relations issues are addressed in a comprehensive and collaborative manner
• Ensures effective recording of ER data to help identify emerging internal trends and insights regarding employee issues
• Leads and collaborates with in house counsel, outside counsel, employee relations team, and HR Business Partner team in order to identify and develop solutions around employee relations issues
• Fosters a positive employee relations environment which drives engagement, inclusion, and ensures a working environment free from harassment
• Serves as an escalation point for complex employee relations issues and investigations by utilizing strong negotiation, conflict resolution, mediation skills, and experience
• Leads and partners with appropriate departments for charge investigations and/or litigation cases
• Reviews the impact of the Employee Relations and Employee Experience functions and develops recommendations to address facility and organizational training needs
• Develops and monitors metrics/tracking mechanisms that measure results, efficiency, and cost effectiveness, while ensuring employee disputes and complaints are handled in a timely and appropriate manner
• Provides guidance to leadership, as needed, for difficult or actionable grievances filed by employees
• Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or regulatory bodies
• Manages the HR Shared Services Employee Relations and Employee Experience team to include Specialists, Managers and Sr. Managers.
Education/Skills
Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Business, Human Resources Management, or related field preferredMaster's degree preferred. Degree in Business, Human Resources Management, or related field. Juris Doctorate a plusUnderstanding of HR legal compliance requirements and understanding of HR programs relative to support of business objectives requiredExpert level experience in Employee Relations - extensive experience conducting investigations and making recommendations. Able to demonstrate outcomes that have led actionable and supportive plansExperience with designing and implementing ER systems for the purposes of documentation and reportingHealthcare industry experience is preferredStrong interpersonal, writing, communication, organizational, project management and presentation skills
