Bachelor of Science Degree, Nationally Certified Experience / Qualifications
State of Florida Supervisor License. Licensure preferred in all 6 areas or at least, Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunohematology or eligible, must obtain within 6 months of employment. 5 years of clinical laboratory experience. Knowledge of Joint Commission, College of American Pathology and AABB accreditation standards. Knowledge of both Federal and State Regulations on Clinical Laboratories. Position Summary
Supervises technical and non-technical laboratory personnel as well as daily operations in assigned areas/shifts to achieve organization and regulatory requirements. Supervises personnel, processes, service levels, regulatory compliance, and service levels in assigned areas. Functional areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to technical discipline areas in which department is licenses, specimen collection, specimen processing and specimen referral testing. Performs technical and non-technical duties in assigned areas of responsibility as required.
Responsible for scheduling, productivity, and inventory for assigned shift(s). Assumes responsibility for adequate staffing. Adjusts schedules and workstations assignments as needed. Orients new employees, conduct in-services, ensure competency testing and annual safety training. Ensures that team members adhere to established policies and procedures. Ensures maintenance of accreditation and licensing requirements for laboratory. Assists Manager / Director with answering / complying to accreditation standards. Implements the laboratory safety program. Ensures that the laboratory follows all hospital safety goals. Performs and interprets diagnostic laboratory procedures. Reviews quality control programs, preventative maintenance, and patient records. Interacts with other departments, physicians, and team members to produce quality laboratory results for quality patient care. Remains current in technical skills and knowledge. Monitors and evaluates the activities and attendance of team members and provides management, coaching, guidance, delegation opportunities, and on-the-job training and re-training as necessary to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to policies and procedures; fosters open communication by offering, encouraging, and accepting suggestions from team members regarding department operations. Provides technical supervisory coverage of the laboratory for equipment or reagent problems. Establishes and maintains all required records. Advises the manager/director of issues affecting the laboratory. Demonstrates proper decision making, effectively establish priorities for ongoing lab functions. Compiles statistics for the laboratory performance improvement program. Meets deadlines. Ensures that critical functions of the department are performed and documented including corrective action as needed. Oversees the quality control of the laboratory. Ensures that records are reviewed, and corrective action is documented. Unacceptable results are investigated, and corrective action documented. Implements the laboratory safety program. Ensures that the laboratory follows all hospital safety goals. Documents education, drills, and safety rounds. Ensures that team members are trained in computer downtime procedure, disaster preparedness, and safe work practices. Works with management to improve process found to be inadequate. Willing to perform bench work when the need arises to improve workflow and efficiency of the department. Motivates behavior, serves as a leader and mentor to others. Takes a leadership role to make changes in process happen. Demonstrates the ability to lead team members through example. Maintains effective rapport with others and gains their cooperation toward achieving goals. Concurrently monitors employee and departmental performance to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, timelines, and regulatory requirements. Develops, implements, and monitors new policies and procedures as needed. Ensures that department team members attend all mandatory JMC/departmental in-services and meetings. Concurrently monitors resource utilization, including payroll, supplies and expenses, client volume and revenue variation reports, outpatient volume reports, mileage, and expense logs; participates in MOR. Takes immediate action, as needed, to rectify problems. Completes and conducts performance evaluations for all team members under direct supervision after three months of employment and annually, in a timely manner. May be required to perform phlebotomy and cross train to other job duties and orient new team members. Performs other duties as assigned.
