The Firmware Electrical Engineer II is responsible for designing, evaluating, and maintaining Electrical/Electromechanical products and systems that are part of the Stoelting/Vollrath product line.Primary responsibilities include performing firmware engineering tasks and electrical engineering tasks including hardware and systems.Completes engineering assignments of moderately broad scope, under general direction with the ability to exercise discretion as to personal work details. This position will support and/or lead projects by developing new or using off-the-shelftechnology.ResponsibilitiesAssumes responsibility of all engineering project work and delegates or coordinates sub-tasks to other functions.Takes lead responsibility and/or participates on engineering teams to perform firmware engineering work within time, quality and cost constraints for micro processor and/or system control functionality.Designs, codes, and implements algorithms which enable the hardware to function, incorporating product and manufacturing requirements into firmware design.Integrates firmware with the hardware boards.Brings-up and tests, writes, debugs, and integrates new device drivers, protocols, and other firmware code across embedded products, using hardware and software techniques.Prepares and creates instructional technical manuscripts for firmware operation along with other necessary documentation (ie flow charts, logic diagrams, and system level structure diagrams).Plans, improves, and manages software applications from inception to use.Designs detailed plans to ensure firmware is functioning properly.Displays technical competency in PCB design of electronic controls.Displays technical competency in automation controls, equipment system design, and human-machine-interface systems.Supports or leads multiple projects concurrently.Demonstrates and acts on innovative traits: curiosity, continuous questioning, open minded, investigative.Makes appropriate decisions using decision support tools and critical thinking including risk reward ratios and critical pathing.Mindful of business impact.Demonstrates and acts on quality traits: analytical, hands-on, high standards, facilitating and systematic.May establish new product bills of materials and manage change process on current production machines.May create or direct the creation of assembly and sub-assembly drawings and release to production.May participate in building and testing engineering prototypes and circuit boards.Maintains state-of-the-art awareness of relevant product technologies, analysis methods, design tools and methodologies.QualificationsPosition requires 5-7 years of relevant work experience.An advanced degree (MS) could be considered to replace 1-2 years of required experience.Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or other related field from universities or colleges accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.Proficiency in writing embedded software (C and/or C++) and integrating with microprocessor hardware.Proficiency in the ability to analyze complex system function, write new and/or re-write existing firmware for modified system behavior to determined specifications.Electrical and Electronic laboratory testing equipment skills like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DAQ systems, etc.Ability to use electrical assembly tools and contain soldering skills.Ability to design analog, digital logic, and microprocessor circuits then translate to industry standard schematic notation.Ability to layout PCB components per design using electronic design automation (EDA) software.Capable of using accepted formulas and manuals in making necessary computations to determine load capacities, strengths, etc.Experience in product certification in UL and EN/IEC product safety standards a plusStrong communication skills.Detail oriented with time management skills.Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required, by company policy, for the job being performed.Company Culture RequirementsTreat all people with Respect - People matter.
