Firmware Engineer II / Engineer III
to join the Research and Development team based in Largo, FL. The engineer will develop embedded software for various medical platforms, apply engineering design principles to sustaining projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and support advanced surgical devices and powered instruments that are used in orthopedic and arthroscopic surgery products. Come inspire us through your dedication, creativity, and exceptional performance - we will do the same for you!This is hybrid position and is based in Largo, Florida.This position has the opportunity to be leveled up for the right experience.Key Duties and Responsibilities:Detailed design, analysis, and testing of electrical components and controls with consideration of performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.Embedded software development for medical device firmware components, including sensor interfaces, communication protocols, motor controls, etc.Working with a team to contribute to electronics hardware and firmware designs using a version control system such as Git.Maintaining legacy codebase projects developed over time by multiple contributors.General design activities such as requirements management, materials and component selection, Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and tolerance analyses.Develop, Analyze and optimize medical instrument firmware/software and troubleshoot failure modes.Drive sustaining engineering activities and continuous improvement of existing products and production equipment, as well as some support for new product development.Assist with designing and updating electronic circuit schematics, PCB layouts, and BOM's and make design decisions based on electronic component specification comparisons.Minimum Requirements for Engineer II:Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related2+ years of relevant work experience1+ years of Firmware (embedded software) experienceMinimum Requirements for Engineer III:Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related5+ years of relevant work experience1+ years of Firmware (embedded software) experiencePreferred Qualifications:Prior medical device
(or other highly regulated industry)
experienceExperience with software and hardware motor control for brushless motors
(especially sensorless BLDC)Relevant firmware development skills: Bootloaders, CAN bus, USB host/client drivers, I2C, SPI, SCI, PID controls, mixed signal interfacesHands-on experience in an electronics lab environmentUnderstanding of control theory and experience generating control algorithms; real-time control functionality implementation in C/C++;Knowledge of FDA and ISO guidelines for the development of medical devicesExperience with Version Control (such as Git), Issue Tracking (such as Jira), Eclipse-based IDEs (such as MCUxpresso), and Requirements Management tools (such as ReqView)Experience with CAD tools such as AltiumKnowledge of analog and digital electrical engineering signals and measurements0-20% travelThis position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship
