Selective Insurance is seeking an energetic and collaborative Senior Data Engineer to work on Data and Analytics projects supporting the Claims Analytics team within the Information Management group. This group is responsible for all Data Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, Analytics and Reporting for the Claims business area. The candidate must be hands on with very good technical skills and a proven track record of project delivery.Responsibilities
Hands on development and support of new or existing data applicationsWorks closely with the lead to create/review low level implementation designs, understand high level data flow designs developed by Data Architects.Provide technical guidance to the team and work on implementing complex data solutions.Provide support in the design, development, code reviews, test deploy and documentation of Data Engineering and Data Integration Applications.Scaling and optimizing schema and performance tuning SQL and ETL pipelines in data lake and data warehouse environments.Work closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, Program Manager, Scrum Master, and Team Members in a Scaled Agile framework.Closely monitor the health of data pipelines and develop contingency plans for failures.Maintain detailed documentation to support downstream integrations.Provide support for production issues.Qualifications
Five years of experience in Data Warehousing, Data integration or Data Engineering projectsAbility to effectively work well with people in other departments and/or outside of the enterprise.Advanced working knowledge of SQL and optimizing queries and databases for performance.Highly proficient in SQL, Python, ETL/ELT tools – (IICS, Databricks, Informatica Power Center)Experience working in Cloud platforms (Preferably Azure)Good understanding of Data Structures and Data Models.Experienced in any of these analytical platforms - PowerBI, AzureML or SynapsePossesses excellent communication skills.Nice To Have
Experience in Azure DevOps for Version Control and CI/CD pipelinesP&C Insurance experience is desired.Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related engineering field preferred.Salary range: $80,000 - $132,100. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint.
