Job DescriptionCome join our
Translational Genomics Group , a tightly knit team of scientists, software engineers, computational biologists, medical doctors, and geneticists. In this role, you will become a key contributor to our open-source software platform,
seqr .The
seqr
platform is used by an international consortium of collaborating clinicians, researchers, and industry partners, and significantly improves their ability to search through large genomic datasets and make discoveries and diagnoses.
seqr
is core to our efforts both in the
Rare Genomes Project
and the
Broad Center for Mendelian Genomics , and has already enabled us to provide genetic diagnoses to more than 2,000 rare disease families. We are now looking for a full-stack software engineer that will help with the next phase of this project.Responsibilities include:
Developing new application features, including updating user interfaces, integrating new kinds of datasets, and designing new APIs and database schemas.Working closely with other software engineers to maintain the seqr platform.Minimum Requirements:
BS or MS degree in Computer Science or other scientific discipline, or substantive work experience in software engineering.At least one year of full-time employment in a software engineering role.Familiar with Git and modern team-based software development practices, including peer code review through pull requests.Experience with Javascript/Typescript and frontend web technologies.Experience with a backend programming language (Python, Ruby, Java, Scala) and web framework.Understanding of SQL and relational database design.Interest in working with a wide variety of technologies and on diverse problems.Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with users.Technologies we use that you’d gain experience in:
Python, React, Django, PostgreSQL,
Hail , Docker, Kubernetes, a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).Genomics and DNA sequencing data analysis.The
