Represents the interest of policyholders of the Company in defending claims made under issued policies, ensuring that there are no conflicts between the representation of the policyholder and others, including the company. Participates in training of claims associates regarding litigation issues as requested. Reviews case law and statutory changes to maintain current knowledge of the law and to report on emerging legal trends.

What You’ll Do

As a Trial Attorney with Sentry, you’ll draft pleadings, handle depositions, attend hearings, argue motions, and negotiate settlements in the interest of Sentry. In addition, you’ll:Represents the interests of the insured and the Company in defending claims, ensuring that there is no conflict of interest between the policyholder and the Company.Handles a full caseload of minimal to moderately complex matters representing insureds or the Company up to, and including, through trial.Handles pleadings, motion practice, depositions, written discovery, expert witness retention and discovery, and trial.Communicates and reports to the client and Claims associates on progress of litigation, strategy, and evolution of matters, maintaining full separation of information as protective of policyholder defense.Assists Claims associates as requested in resolving matters through mediation, arbitration, settlement, friendly suit, or court approved resolution.What It Takes

Juris Degree (JD) from an American Bar Association-accredited law schoolValid license to practice law, in good standing, in the state of CaliforniaMinimum 2 years of experience as a licensed attorney in at least one stateMust have appeared in court (virtually or in person), taken and/or defensed dispositions, and retaining expert witnessesProven ability to present complex concepts analytically and logicallySuccessful experience in dealing with people where conflict and controversy existsAbility to self-manage and operate as an attorney with a full caseload with minimal daily oversight.What You'll Receive
