Bus Driver - Tuition Discount Applies

The school Bus Driver supports and advances the mission of FCS by transporting students to and from school, assisting in other school-related transportation activities, and being very visible public representations of the school for safe transportation and driver/student interaction; reports to the Transportation Coordinator.

A. Adheres to policies listed in the Transportation Handbook

B. Fuels buses and vehicles, not allowing fuel to be below a half tank

C. Conducts daily pre-trip inspections and checks off appropriate form

D. Arrives 15 minutes prior to trip departure times

E. Practices alertness and safe driving procedures at all times

F. Keeps buses clean, free of trash and belongings

G. Keeps driver area, route book and paperwork neat and well organized

H. Keeps accurate records and turns them in promptly at the appropriate times

I. Maintains frequent communication with the Transportation Coordinator and promptly reports any difficulties with individuals or equipment or other emergency situations

J. Reports discipline situations and changes in planned trip schedules to principals

K. Maintains necessary supplies on the bus and replaces them when needed

L. Attends monthly scheduled meetings and in-service meetings

M. Assists in any Transportation Department fundraiser

Requirements

The Bus Driver should have the following qualifications:

1. Spiritual and Personal Qualifications

a. Committed Christian with a close personal walk with the Lord and the Christian character qualities to serve as a role model for young people

b. Regular in attendance at an evangelical Protestant church

c. Commitment to a Biblical lifestyle, not promoting or engaging in premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior

d. If married, a solid commitment based on Mark 10:9 and positive marital relationship

e. Strong commitment to Christian education

f. Strong driving skills with a driving record in good standing according to Virginia Code 18.2-271.1 and 46.2-497

g. Ability to focus on driving while maintaining a positive, controlled behavioral environment on the bus

h. A love for young people, a desire to minister to them, and an ability to be firm yet sensitive when correction is needed

i. Ability to respond quickly, calmly and professionally to diverse situations

j. Ability to be consistently punctual in adhering to a strict time schedule

k. Ability to work independently while maintaining a cooperative team spirit and willingness to learn and remain flexible

l. Teachable, servant spirit

2. Physical qualifications (8 VAC 20-70-280)

a. Has no loss of a foot, a leg, a hand, or an arm which interferes with the ability to control and safely drive a school bus without reasonable accommodations

b. Has no impairment of the use of a foot, a leg, a hand, fingers, or an arm, and no other structural defect or limitation likely to interfere with the ability to control and safely drive a school bus without reasonable accommodations

c. Has no known medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus currently requiring insulin for control and safely drive a school bus without reasonable accommodations

d. Has no current clinical diagnosis of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, coronary insufficiency, thrombosis, or any other cardiovascular disease of a variety known to be accompanied by syncope, dyspnea, collapse, or congestive cardiac failure

e. Has no known medical history or clinical diagnosis of a respiratory dysfunction likely to interfere with the ability to control and drive a school bus safely without reasonable accommodations

f. Has no known current clinical diagnosis of high blood pressure likely to interfere with the ability to operate a school bus safely without reasonable accommodations

g. Has no known medical history or clinical diagnosis of rheumatic, arthritic, orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular disease which would interfere with the ability to control and operate a school bus safely without reasonable accommodations

h. Has no known medical history or clinical diagnosis of epilepsy or any other condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or any loss of ability to control a school bus without reasonable accommodations

i. Has no known mental, nervous, organic, or functional disease or psychiatric disorder likely to interfere with the ability to drive a school bus safely without reasonable accommodations

j. Has both distant and near visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye with or without corrective lenses, and field of vision of at least 70 degrees in the horizontal meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber

k. First perceives a forced-whispered voice in the better ear at not less than five feet with or without the use of a hearing aid or, if tested by use of an audiometric device, does not have an average hearing loss in the better ear greater than 40 decibels at 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz with or without a hearing aid when the audiometric device is calibrated to American National Standard (formerly ASA Standard) Z24.5-1951

l. Does not use an amphetamine, narcotic, or any habit-forming drug without appropriate physician supervision
