WHO WE ARE

The Legal & Business Affairs team of Vox Media has an opening for a Counsel or Senior Counsel (commensurate with experience), with primary responsibilities in the areas of litigation and employment. This role helps to manage our litigation docket, including copyright, defamation, privacy and employment related claims. Additionally, this role will also help support our People Team by researching relevant areas of federal, state, and local employment laws, crafting policies that keep Vox Media at the forefront of best employment practice, and work on employee relations matters. This is a hybrid position based out of either our Washington D.C. or New York, NY office, and reports to the VP, Associate General Counsel.WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead the Company's response to copyright disputes including: researching facts and relevant law, drafting responses to demands, negotiating resolutions with opposing parties, and drafting settlement agreements.Serve as primary point of contact both internally and externally on unfiled disputes or claims, including fact-finding, response drafting responses, and settlement/resolution.Work closely with and manage outside counsel for filed lawsuits by reviewing pleadings, advising on case strategy, and supporting internal discovery efforts.Litigation and subpoena support including managing and issuing litigation holds, submitting claims to insurance and working with our carriers to achieve coverage, and managing outside counsel costs.Provide comprehensive and practical legal advice to our People Team and managers on various aspects of day-to-day employment-related topics, including advising on performance management and terminations, hiring, employee/contractor classification, DEI+, FMLA, ADA, and FLSA.Draft, review, analyze and negotiate employment-related agreements and policies, including our employee handbook and related policies, offer letters, deal memos, severance agreements, and incentive plans.Research and monitor developments in employment laws and develop and implement internal practices and policies to achieve compliance with applicable laws and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.Manage and work with outside counsel to support immigration matters.Assist with other legal matters as needs arise.WHO YOU ARE

JD from accredited law school and licensed to practice law and in good standing.At least two years' relevant litigation and employment experience, either in an in-house or law firm setting (some in-house experience preferred but not required).Familiarity with employee benefits or unionized environments is a plus.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills, creative problem solving, good judgment, and an ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment.Resourceful and proactive, with a strong ability to balance legal risk with practical business needs.An ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple high priority projects and deadlines.WHERE YOU'LL WORK

While we prefer that this job is based in either Washington, DC or New York, this job can be remote or regional to either Washington, DC or New York to allow periodic travel to Vox Media offices.WHY VOX MEDIA?

Final salary offered to the candidate selected for the position will be based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.Pay Range$140,000—$178,000 USD
