Position Summary:
Codman Square Health Center (CSHC) is seeking a seasoned nurse leader to become its new Director of Nursing and Clinical Services (DON) and join a dedicated, mission -oriented team. They will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will be responsible for guiding Nursing through a period of exciting growth and beyond. At an organizational level, the Director of Nursing and Clinical Services will collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to build a high performing organization. The Health Center has adopted a triad leadership model within its clinical operations areas to drive integration to ensure Providers, Nursing and Operations all have a voice at the table. They will help determine the ideal Nurse Leadership infrastructure to maximize efficiency and cohesion. They will continually explore opportunities for improvement in the quality of nursing care, productivity of nurses, efficiency of workflows, and utilization of staffing models. The Director will work closely with the
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical Director of Performance Improvement and Research, Director of Operations, Director of Pop Health and the Director of Compliance/Privacy to ensure robust clinical compliance. They will lead/support the implementation of a successful infectious control, and risk management and safety program. They will put systems in place to increase nurse visits and strengthen the management of ordering and inventorying medical supplies and medications, and more. They will work closely and collaboratively with the Director of the ACO and Care Management Health. They will evaluate patient care data to ensure that care is provided in accordance with clinical guidelines and organizational standards. The Director of Nursing and Clinical Services will seek treatments that balance clinical and financial concerns with the families' needs and the patients' quality of life. They will contribute to the development and improvement of clinical care pathways that enhance cost effectiveness while providing quality care. The Director will be part of building care management to support and strengthen the oversight of the ACO.
Primary Responsibilities:
Supervision and Management of Assigned StaffSupervises, trains, and evaluates staff.This may include interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training new employees.Audits, maintains standards and scope of nursing practice; provides direction and support to staff to ensure practice efficiency. Acts as conduit for communication to nursing staff.Facilitates opportunities for education, mentoring, and professional growth & development for nursing staff. Promotes professional nursing practice through mentoring, professional development of nurses, collaboration with other disciplines, and encouragement of participation in professional education.Orients and trains new employees in compliance with organizational standardization of onboarding. Acts as a clinical management resource to Nurse Managers, Nurse Supervisors, Nurse Leads, Nurses, and Medical Assistants (MAs). Promotes professional nursing practice through mentoring and professional development of nurses (and medical assistants).Establishes job guidelines and accountability. Ensures that standards and scope of nursing practice are being upheld.Analyzes and determines appropriate staff ratios to support provision of services. Takes action to ensure adequate support within clinical departments,Conducts performance reviews according to established guidelines.Takes action to ensure increased nurse and medical assistant satisfaction and engagement
Development and Implementation of Systems that Support the Efficient Delivery of Services
Directs the development and implementation of new programs and services consistent with organizational goals.Develops and implements policies and procedures that improve services and revise them accordingly.Ensures client satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, and suggestions and provides appropriate follow through.Develops strategies and improvements consistent with the quality improvement program.Ensures effective internal collaboration among medical, nursing, and all staff in the delivery of care.Facilitates cooperative and collaborative external, community, and institutional relationships.Development and Implementation of Systems to Support the Operations of the Health Center Targeted at Improving Provider Efficiency in the Delivery of Services
Develops improved workflow patterns.
Develops scheduling protocols that support adequate coverage, patient access, practice efficiency, staffing support, and use of space.Evaluates the volume budget for nursing visits and looks at ways to capture nursing billing opportunities.Evaluates and monitors schedule protocols against established benchmarks and protocols.Assesses practice capacity and capabilities for managing new contracts, programs, or services.Develops reports and uses data to ensure the performance standards for the health center are being met in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer.Works with the fiscal department to review reimbursement procedures and systems (i.e. coding/encounters) that support more efficient fiscal management.Provision of Leadership to Assigned Departments
Participate in fiscal planning and position control and authorizing expenditures.Determines capital, supply, equipment, and operating needs for assigned departments. Strengthens the management of ordering and inventorying medical supplies and medication.Participates in meetings and on committees in discussion of goals, visions, and strategic plans for clinical services.Provides effective communication to staff on vision, goals, and procedures. Acts as a conduit for communication from staff to management as well.Leads development of department initiatives designed to foster team development and maintain an outstanding customer service culture.Ensures departments meet all regulatory requirements (e.g. JCAHO, DPH, etc).Participate in organization initiatives such as expansion and others as assigned.Oversight of compliance for grant funded programs.advanced access.Administrative Support for Clinical Leaders, Providers & Clinical Teams:
Assist with submitting and monitoring IT, facilities and housekeeping work requestsOversee purchasing and maintenance of office supplies for department(s).Oversee equipment maintenance and repair requests for assigned departments.Support clinical teams in ensuring exam rooms are fully stocked and operational.Support clinical Leaders/teams in ordering medical supplies, maintaining inventory and submit purchase orders and invoices.In collaboration with Clinical Leaders, oversee patient form request and tracking procedure.Collaborate with Clinical Leaders and Practice Administrators, as requested, to develop or assist in oversight of clinical support processes, such as, Prior Authorizations and Requests for Outside Information (ROI).Utilize front-end staff in the support of clinical support processes as determined with the Clinical Leaders and Practice Administrators, including initiatives, such as, appointment scheduling for quality improvement initiatives.Work collaboratively with Credentialing Coordinator to ensure all providers have been credentialed/re-credentialed; work with Medical Director to address potential credentialing concerns in a timely manner.Assist in development and implementation of departmental operational policies and procedures and training modules.Assist with other administrative activities as agreed upon between the Clinical Leaders and the Practice Administrators.Department Communication and Support:
Attend assigned meetings, trainings and participate in committees as required.Participate in daily clinical huddles.Provide regular updates to the front-end staff.Provider regular updates to clinical team on front-end processes.Provide exceptional customer service.Maintain confidentiality and privacy consistent with HIPAA guidelines.Adhere and enforce Health Center Policies and Procedures.Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing is required. Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.Current license to practice professional nursingRN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.Previous leadership experience within a diverse community health center setting preferred.Must be able to act cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Must have demonstrated commitment to the principals of collaboration, teamwork, and innovation.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Fluent in Haitian Creole or Spanish preferred.
