Job Description
The sr. business support analyst provides a wide range of strategic and sophisticated financial analysis and support to business. Conduct highly complex research and support in areas of cost control, business performance evaluation and evaluation of capital investment decisions. The sr. business support analyst partners with business leadership to provide solutions to complex business needs ranging from strategic initiative evaluation and process changes.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement and maintain sophisticated models, analysis, and reports to provide accurate and timely O&M and capital expenditure cost control and process efficiency improvements. This includes providing and interpreting monthly variance reporting to the business. (15%)
Develop, implement and maintain models, analysis, and reports to provide accurate and timely O&M and capital expenditure forecasts to ensure management is fully apprised of changing business events. (15%)
Provide business leadership and support in the development, implementation and monitoring of annual expense and capital budgets. Reviews submittals from functional groups and analyzes for conformance with instructions and objectives. Performs detailed and moderately complex fiscal analysis on a variety of issues in support of and to facilitate budgetary decision making and provides summary recommendations to management. (15%)
Respond to special requests for analysis of complex financial data, analysis and information. (10%)
Develop, implement and maintain models to evaluate significant capital projects; provide analytical support for O&M vs. capital decisions and provide financial support the capital investment process. (10%)
Participate in evaluating proposals and make recommendations to management for achieving long-range objectives. This includes leading special project work, developing, planning for, coordinating, implementing and installing new processes, initiatives, and methods. (10%)
Provide guidance, expertise and direction to management as to the accounting structure and accounting. (5%) Provide analytical support for compilations, analysis and interpretation of data and technical input to assist in development of project planning. (5%)
Provide technical direction and training on accounting issues to staff and management. This includes data validation with accounting system support. (5%)
Develop and maintain reports to comply with regulatory requirements and satisfy customer requests. (5%)
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, economics, engineering or finance or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
2+ years of related experience for the associate business support analyst role.
3+ years of related experience for the business support analyst role.
5+ years of related experience for the business support analyst II role.
Eight years of related experience for the sr. business support analyst role.
Effective complex analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills necessary to interpret economic, financial and accounting information as well as other statistical data, information or events in order to perform analysis, draw proper conclusions and make recommendations for action.
Knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors.
Exceptional research and analytical skills and strong attention to detail. Strong software skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word. Experience with other software applications including PowerPoint, e-mail, Oracle Financials.
Advanced spreadsheet and report design skills for presentation of financial and other statistical information.
Strong skills in database management and query skills using Access, DiscovererPlus, or other querying tools used by the company. Exceptional leadership skills to provide guidance, direction, orientation and instruction.
Project management skills sufficient to coordinate and lead projects.
Ability to work within strict deadlines and handle multiple projects and with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work with and communicate with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
Ability to establish and monitor adherence to standards. Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
