A Brief OverviewEnsures efficient daily operations of the Ultrasound Department. Assigns resources as needed. Assists the Manager, Sono Imaging and Administrative Director in conducting special projects and studies

What you will doPerforms all ultrasound techniques and examinations, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecological scans, cyst aspirations and biopsiesPerforms vascular examsPositions and transfers patientsSelects proper technical factors on an individual patient basisAssists physician in administering procedureMaintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patientsSecures and returns supplies, linen, and medicineConsults with others to obtain a complete clinical history and gathers pertinent clinical dataSchedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinationsMaintains an orderly, safe and clean working environmentAssists in allocating personnel to satisfy workload demands in the most efficient and effective manner possiblePerforms scheduled Quality Assurance testing activities required by State, federal and local regulatory agencies. These testing activities are to be performed as outlined in Radiation Physicist Quality Assurance ManualPrioritizes daily work schedule to most effectively process patients requiring ultrasound services. Prioritizes patients based upon clinical indications and physician referralsEnsures that ultrasound services have ample supplies and materials needed to operate on a daily basis. Orders and maintains standard supplies for departmentEnsures that all regulatory requirements for ultrasound are met and documented. Displays full knowledge of ultrasound regulationsCommunicates equipment problems or concerns to Manager, Sono Imaging or Administrative Director. Makes service calls as needed. Presents documentation to Director for processing of paymentAssists in conducting and monitoring special projects or auditsClinically instructs students in Ultrasound techniqueParticipates in in-services with staff regarding departmental quality control operationsParticipates in updating the Clinical Ultrasound Procedure ManualAssists in complying with Federal and State regulations, codes and inspectionsParticipates on various committees including department quality control and radiology Performance Improvements. Provides valuable input when possibleSuggests cost containment efforts, which maximize department effectiveness and imageDevelops, suggests implementation and monitors new procedures and protocols to enhance department operationsParticipates in department in-service education efforts and attends seminars and conferences on issues pertaining to department operationsDifferentiates anatomical abnormalities and report to RadiologistDifferentiates vascular abnormalities by identifying subtle changes of soundProtects self and patients from injury through careful observationMaintains and respects confidentialityComplies with Hospital dress codes by wearing ID badge and maintaining professional appearanceDemonstrates commitment to own work schedule by adhering to attendance standardsUtilizes time in an effective mannerAdjusts personal schedule in case of fluctuations in workload of the departmentDemonstrates ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptlyAttends all staff meetingsReports any suggestions or positive changes to supervisorIncorporates physiological and developmental age of patients into overall plan for delivery of careUtilizes the PACS systemProvides on-call coverage as necessary per the needs of the DepartmentPerforms other duties as assignedResponsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening/weekend hours in order to meet the operational needs of the Department and/or the HospitalResponsibilities will require the ability to read, write and rationally comprehend the English languageMust be able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality service is provided to clients and physiciansUtilizing any or all Hospital provided equipment and/or safe work procedures; employee shall be required to lift all objects as is practicableThe employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of this job, including but not limited to, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing.
