Lead Counsel - Government ContractingLocation: Washington, DC; Richmond, Virginia (REQUIRED)Hybrid RolePosition DescriptionMcKesson seeks an experienced government contracts attorney with eight or more years of legal experience, including significant law firm or in-house (company or government) experience supporting contracting with the federal, state, local, and tribal governments. This role will report to McKesson’s Managing Lead Counsel, Government Contracting and advise McKesson Medical-Surgical Government Solutions on an array of government contracts issues.Primary responsibilitiesProvide legal support for McKesson Medical-Surgical Government Solution’s pursuit and performance of federal, state, local, and tribal government contractsDevelop close working relationship with business stakeholders to facilitate efficient and effective review of solicitations and preparation of proposalsWork directly with business leaders and other members of the General Counsel Organization (GCO) to identify and address risks and issues raised by contracting with the governmentRepresent McKesson Medical-Surgical Government Solutions in engagements with government attorneys and contracting professionalsCollaborate with other attorneys and members of the GCO, business and supporting teams that engage with government customers to develop and implement appropriate compliance processes and controls that address government contracting requirementsServes as a legal advisor on a wide array of topics relating to segment needs, including legal risk mitigation, customer management, strategic initiatives and compliance programsThe following experience is preferred:Federal Supply Schedules (GSA and VA) preferredBid ProtestsHealthcare industry or other areas of federal oversight are desiredMinimum QualificationsJuris Doctor Degree and a member of a state barEight years of experience advising on government contractingCritical SkillsKnowledge of federal, state, and local government contracting rulesExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to provide sound, clear legal advice within the company, including senior business executivesAbility to adapt communication style depending on the recipient’s level of sophistication and familiarity with government contractingComfortable working on multiple projects concurrentlyBusiness acumen dealing with risk management and organizational savvyAbility to work closely with, facilitate interactions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (including representatives from other areas of the GCO regulatory and compliance professionals, sales professionals and operations managers)Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal teamLocationWashington, D.C.; Richmond, VirginiaMust be authorized to work in the US.
