Duties and Responsibilities:

These are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation(s). Other reasonable duties may be assigned.Leadership• Cooperate with other agencies to promote technical and community college education.• Adhere to policies and procedures contained in the SOWELA Technical and Community College faculty handbook.• Responsible for attending all commencement ceremonies.• Responsible for participating in local business and industry activities.• Develop clearly stated course objectives and learning outcomes.• Responsible for student completion, placement, and retention rates, ensuring they meet standards of the applicable accrediting agencies.• Maintain a healthful, safe, and secure classroom and lab environment.• Request adequate equipment and supplies to support the programs.• Evaluate follow-up data from completers and employers to obtain information concerning program effectiveness and relevance to improve the quality of the programs where needed.• Promote an atmosphere of collegiality within and between the various schools, programs, and student support services.• Promote a culture of service to students, faculty, staff, prospective students, and community members.• Promote a culture of evidence that continuously strives to identify, collect and interpret data for more informed decision making.• Empower direct reports and create an atmosphere that is open to creative ideas for action and improvement.• Oversee the effective and efficient functioning of advisory committees for all academic programs.• Plan and implement a variety of systems and resources to assist faculty in their role as academic advisors.• Monitor the College's strategic plan and ensures alignment with the school's and the program's Institutional Effectiveness plans.• Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and maintaining curriculum and programs that respond to community needs, prepare students for success, and meet the external requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges and other accrediting agencies.• Provide leadership for enhancing the visibility, enrollment, and resources of the College programs and the school assigned.• Represent the Academic Affairs division at college-wide, instructional, and community meetings.• If a program coordinator has a term of employment less than 12 months, the dean is responsible for oversight of the program(s).• Initiate personnel actions such as hiring, coaching, developing, evaluating, and disciplining. Prepare work schedules; assign or delegate responsibilities. Monitor payroll and timesheets. Set deadlines to ensure completion of the school's functions.• Responsible for planning, controlling, communicating and implementing procedures and processes for the overall efficient operations of the school.• Perform other work as required.

Personnel• Direct the recruitment, selection, and recommendation of candidates who meet appropriate credentialing standards for program coordinator, as well as full-time and adjunct faculty positions.• Determine the eligibility and verify the credentials of faculty to teach in the various content areas supervised.• Coordinate the orientation and mentoring of new faculty.• Supervise and facilitate the needs of instructional staff in accordance with institutional policies, regulations, and procedures.• Facilitate participation in professional development activities for faculty in the school assigned.

Curriculum• Coordinate and supervise the curriculum development process in each of the programs which constitute the school assigned.• Promote the development of innovative instructional methodologies that enhance student success.• Collaborate with appropriate colleagues at regional colleges/universities to promote transfer and articulation.

Evaluation• Make recommendations for retention, promotion, and termination of faculty.• Conduct annual evaluation of direct reports in accordance with college policies and procedures.• Oversee the annual evaluations of all employees in the school assigned.• Provide conflict resolution for appropriate personnel.• Engage program coordinators and faculty in the development and evaluation of program-level Institutional Effectiveness plans.• Evaluate the effectiveness of all academic offerings in the school assigned.Budget• Work with program coordinators and faculty to establish needs and priorities for school expenditures and growth.• Oversee the school's budget and control expenditures within the parameters of approved budget practices.• Identify resources for the development of new programs and initiatives.• Ensure the maintenance, security, and annual inventory of equipment in the school assigned.• Direct the development and administration of budget as appropriate; direct the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, and supplies; monitor, recommend, and/or approve expenditures.

Student Issues• Participate in the resolution of student grievances.• In coordination with program coordinators, oversee final degree audits prior to submission to the Office of Enrollment Management.• Approve course substitution waivers upon recommendation of appropriate program coordinators.

Organization• Monitor the maintenance of a current record of school/program syllabi, annual reports, faculty evaluations, faculty credentials, and student success data relevant for accreditation and state reporting purposes.• Participate in assigned committee activities.• Seek and manage alternative funding resources including donations, grants, and entrepreneurial initiatives.• Collaborate with fellow deans, program coordinators, faculty and student support staff in the development of grants.• Monitor course scheduling, faculty assignments, and calendars for academic affairs.• Coordinate assigned activities with program coordinators, other deans, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and with outside agencies and organizations.• Develop and present recommendations and reports as requested.• Carry out the overall day-to-day operational supervision of the assigned school.

Required Education

:

• Bachelor's degree.

Required Experience

:

Three years of relevant industry-based experience in one or more of the following areas:• Industrial Electrical, Industrial Instrumentation, Process Technology (Process Operator), Chemical Laboratory Technology (Lab Analyst), related field, or related higher education work experience.• One year of leadership experience in a higher education setting as a program coordinator, department chair, dean, or equivalent position.

:

• Master's degree.

Preferred Experience

:

• Teaching experience in a secondary or higher education setting.• Experience with accreditation.

Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
