The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is seeking a neonatologist with a strong history of success in the clinical and academic realms to become Chief of the Division of Neonatology.  The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, educational, and community engagement activities of the Division, lead recruiting efforts, and ensure career mentoring for Division faculty and trainees.  Successful candidates will display evidence of clinical, academic, and/or research leadership, a commitment to collegial endeavors, and a strong commitment to faculty development.

The Division provides neonatal care at the Universitys 68-bed Level IV NICU at Golisano Childrens Hospital and the Rochester General Hospital 14-bed Level II SCN.  The Golisano unit collaborates with a full suite of medical and surgical subspecialties, including pediatric cardiothoracic surgery.  The NICU and SCN are staffed with a full complement of residents and advanced practice providers.  The University is the Regional Perinatal Center for the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, with a catchment area of 1.2 million.

The University of Rochester is a major research university with a long history of clinical and laboratory investigation in neonatology.  The Division of Neonatology consists of 26 neonatologists, several pediatricians, and five tenure-track PhD laboratory investigators.  Major clinical and laboratory research areas include pulmonary biology, neonatal clinical trials, retinopathy of prematurity, childhood pulmonary outcomes of premature infants, neurodevelopment, growth and nutrition, human milk and lactation, neonatal hematology, neonatal immunology, simulation, machine learning, and quality improvement.  Faculty hold a variety of federally funded grants and contracts, including several multicenter grants, and collaborate with colleagues across the Department, University, and nation.  The Divisions clinical research group includes research coordinators, research nurses, and data management staff, who support 12 investigators with research programs in a wide variety of areas.  The Department of Pediatrics provides outstanding grants administration (pre- and post-award) and biostatistical and IRB support.  Additional clinical and translational research resources are by the Universitys National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS)-funded Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI).  The CTSI provides research support and masters and doctoral training in public health and clinical and translational investigation.  There is a dedicated Administrator, and a talented administrative staff support the Division.  The UR Medicine Quality Institute offers training, funding, and project support for quality improvement activities.  The University of Rochester and Golisano Childrens Hospital are committed to community engagement and work closely with community partners and members to promote the health of the community and the region. 

The Division maintains a highly respected, ACGME-accredited Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship that accepts three trainees annually.  An endowed Research Fellowship allows exceptional fellows to continue focused research training for an additional year or more.  The Golisano NICU also hosts a one-year advanced practice provider fellowship that accepts highly qualified applicants nationwide.  The University has excellent Pediatric and Medicine-Pediatric residencies and is a top-ranked medical school.

Rochester is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, just north of the breathtaking Finger Lakes region, and boasts affordable living, highly ranked public schools, outstanding cultural amenities, and a vibrant metropolitan area.  Cultural amenities include the Eastman School of Music, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Garth Fagan Dance, the Memorial Art Gallery, the Strong National Museum of Play, the George Eastman House, the International Museum of Photography and Film, the Rochester Museum & Science Center, the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, the Womens Rights National Historical Park as well as several theaters, and studios. Rochester is home to the Rochester Red Wings minor league baseball team, the Rochester Americans ice hockey team, the Rochester RazorSharks basketball team, the Rochester Knighthawks lacrosse team, and the Buffalo Bills training camp. The area offers excellent four-season recreational activities, including golf, hiking, biking, camping, water sports, and downhill and cross-country skiing. The Finger Lakes Wine region produces award-winning wines within easy driving distance.  Rochester is a 6-hour drive to New York City, 3.5 hours to Toronto, 90 minutes to Niagara Falls, and 40 minutes to Letchworth State Park the Grand Canyon of the East.

Qualifications

Neonatal-Perinatal fellowship training, board certification, and progressive leadership responsibility in neonatal-perinatal medicine are requirements. The preferred candidate will have an independent scholarly portfolio and a track record of success in research or quality improvement and in mentoring trainees and junior faculty.

The referenced pay range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the jobs salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, the individual's experience, and expertise, with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
