A national multidisciplinary design firm is seeking a talented Lab Planner for their San Francisco office. Bring your passion and experience to this award-winning studio and collaborate with our industry-thought leaders in science + technology design, sustainability, and architectural innovation.
This role involves close collaboration with Principals, Project Managers, and Designers, taking the lead in architectural lab programming and planning for science and technology facilities. These facilities include teaching and research labs, vivariums, and STEM facilities for academic, corporate research, and government clients. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
The firm has 12 offices all around the world focusing on healthcare, arts and culture, community, corporate, education, and government projects. Recently, the firm won the prestigious American Architecture Award for Museums and Cultural Building, along with IIDA Healthcare Design Award.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Meet with clients and users to develop or validate program requirements for lab and high-tech facilities.Develop space programs and physical plans at various scales.Collaborate with the project team to plan facilities, including flexible planning grids, lab organization diagrams, and service distribution concepts.Lead the documentation of laboratory systems, such as casework, lab equipment, and the development of laboratory spaces, to create next-generation settings for discovery.Participate in marketing efforts through proposal development, interview participation, and presentations.Develop trusting relationships with clients.Share expertise and mentor junior staff members in lab programming and planning.Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
8-12 years of experience in architectural lab programming/planning.Architectural registration preferred.Proven ability to manage clients, project teams, and project processes effectively.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.Design sensitivity, a keen interest in sustainability, and excellent technical ability.
