SUMMARY:

Works under the direction and supervision of the RN in charge. Provides assistance to the physician, mid-level provider, head nurse and patient. The LVN is a member of the health care team responsible for performing assigned nursing care activities. Interprets and supports the mission of Borrego Health.

Compensation:$28.84 - $38.11

ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Functions:LVNs are responsible for knowing the scope of practice.Prepares ChartsObtains consentsAssists in controlling patient flowPrepares patients for examinations or procedures including positioning, draping, shaving and disinfecting treatment sitesPrepares and replenishes supplies in the treatment room and exam rooms; maintain exam rooms in an orderly and constant state of readiness for incoming patientsReceives patients, take and record chief complaint and prepare patient for examination; record blood pressure, pulse, respirations, pulse oxymetry, height and weightCollects specimens, takes EKGs collect blood samples as requested by clinic personnel; assists the physician with examination, treatments, minor surgery, dressing changes and splintingExplains to the patient the procedures followed in an examination, a diagnostic test or treatment at the request of clinic personnelAssists the provider in the collection of specimens such as pap smears and throat culturesAssists with exams, invasive procedures and minor surgeries that are carried out by providersCleans and sterilizes supplies, rooms and equipmentDisposes of contaminated, disposable and outdated itemsHas knowledge of the operation of all equipments in clinical area, and correct useReports to head nurse when equipment needs maintenanceReports to head nurse when materials needed in clinical area need to be ordered.Arrange dated supplies in order of expirationPlaces blue dot when new medication or supply is openedOperates under the standing orders of the physicianAdministers medications, premixed allergens, and performing skin test, patch testingKeeps up to date all quality assurance logs (Oxygen pressure, glucometer, refrigerator temperature, medication inventory, sample medication inventory, immunizations inventory)Has knowledge and practices of department policies and protocols, to ensure uniform delivery of services and promotes quality assuranceReviews patient record and forms for completion and accuracyAnswers the telephone and give accurate informationProvides patient counseling and educationSupplies exam rooms with educational materialsCase Manages patientsAttends all staff meetingsDemonstrates willingness to assist co-workers whenever needed. Maintain good working relationship with all clinic personnelObserves BCHF politics and proceduresThis does not limit clinical activities. LVNs will work according to Job description and scope of practice, if more training is needed the head nurse will provide it.Responsible for continuing education, has current license and CPR cardOther duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed as Vocational Nurse in the State of CaliforniaFive years of experience in nursingSpecial Conditions of Employment:

Licensed as Vocational Nurse in the State of CaliforniaClean driving record and insurance as required by the stateAll staff that is presently working within a clinic is required to have a Current and Valid CPR and First Aide certification on file with the Human Resources Department. This is for clinical and administrative staff. This new license requirement is mandatory for continued employment, CPR and First Aide certification must be obtained though the American Heart Association. Internet certificates do not comply and for this reason are not valid.
