POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists the Physician in the provision of nursing care to patients in an office setting by performing routine and delegated duties as needed for the care of the patient, including administrative and clerical duties. Delivers that care in accordance to LVN Practice Act of the state of Texas. Manages clinic staff daily, assists with supply ordering when necessary, supervises the set up and maintenance of the exam and procedure rooms and assists with minor office procedures as needed. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

HS Diploma or GED preferredGraduate from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse Program (LVN), requiredCurrent state of Texas Vocational Nurse license (LVN), requiredAbility to work with geriatric patients in a high volume practice for a minimum of two yearsCurrent BLS/CPR certification is required within 30 days of employmentStrong knowledge of medical terminologyAbility to operate the following medical equipment: EKG, Event monitor, holter monitor, treadmill preferredComputer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Internet, and practice mgmt. softwareGood written and verbal communication and excellent customer service skills requiredRequires reasoning ability, good independent judgment and organizational skillsMust project a professional image and be able to work with frequent interruptions be able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective mannerExhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience, must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issuesBilingual - English/Spanish - highly preferredPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interviews patients to obtain medical information, records patients' medical history, measure their vital signs, including weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, BMI and pulse.Prepare charts for daily pts from the office appointment schedule and pull any necessary records from the hospital systems to include lab, procedures, x-rays, etc.Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat, clean and well stocked with needed supplies.Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.Disposes of contaminated or expired drugs and supplies.Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients.Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections.Collect laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.Flexibility to work different work schedules and locations as needed by MD.Translation for MD's with the patients during exam.Take inventory and order supplies on a regular basisCall for record releases needed from PCP if pt. does not bring records with them to the initial appointmentFax to PCP offices all reports and progress notes from physicians.Participates in process improvement and compliance projectsPrepares clinical area for TJC inspections.Report any/all equipment failures to Supervisor and/or Office ManagerOther duties as assigned.
