Responsibilities
Mayo Clinic in Arizona seeks a Palliative Medicine physician. Our team consists of a core group of providers which includes six physicians from multiple backgrounds, two nurse practitioners and two physician assistants. The Division of Palliative Medicine believes strongly in a team-based, interdisciplinary approach to care, and this is reflected in our large team of four registered nurses, five social workers, and two chaplains, who are full-time members of our interdisciplinary team.
Providers have the opportunity to practice in several clinical settings on the Mayo Clinic campus. Mayo has an active hospital palliative care consult service, vibrant outpatient clinic and a 12-bed inpatient hospice unit co-managed with our community partner, Hospice of the Valley. Hospice of the Valley is the largest, not-for-profit hospice organization in the country. Through this collaboration, faculty and trainees have the opportunity to care for patients throughout their journey, including at end-of-life.
The Palliative Medicine Program supports an ACGME-accredited physician fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine that attracts outstanding candidates from all over the country. We recently expanded our fellowship to accommodate three fellows. Additionally, we have a Nurse Practitioner fellowship. Colleagues are actively involved in teaching residents and fellows and are encouraged to pursue clinical research projects. This growing academic practice provides the support for new faculty to develop their own unique academic and educational pursuits. This is paired with generous support for CME and dedicated programming for clinician’s sustainability throughout their career. Mayo Clinic excels in teamwork and interdisciplinary care. Our providers have unparalleled access to subspecialty care and extensive diagnostic and therapeutic resources.
