Job Overview:Prepares tissue specimens by treating with chemicals, slicing with microtome and placing on glass slide for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.Essential Functions:

All histology (to include the gross room) laboratory Q.C. functions are performed daily with zero instances of non-compliance.Assist residents to select proper stains in accordance with type of embedding material used and steps involved, in bringing out certain elements as required for diagnosis.Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency evaluating old and new antibodies for immunohistochemistry staining. Adheres to policies and procedures recommended by the Chairman of the Department of Pathology.Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the orientation and sectioning of the different fresh tissues specimens submitted for frozen section examination. Is able to perform basic troubleshooting in a case by case basis.Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in tissue fixation and processing utilizing the policies and procedures recommended by the Chairman of the Department of Pathology.Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency on histochemistry staining (enzymes or hematological stains).Demonstrates proficiency in histologic technique in processing and preparing tissue specimens submitted for fixation and processing. Including orienting, depth perception, H&E stain and special stains, Identifies when and how to troubleshooting needs to be performed.Frozen sections are handled immediately upon receipt and a satisfactory tissue slide is prepared within 15 min. as observed by the resident and/or pathologist with no more than two substantiated complaints.Qualifications:Required:

High School Diploma1 year full-time experience in Histopathology working under the direction of a Board certified anatomic pathologist.Preferred:

/ASShould have ASCP Histo-tech certification.
