Location: 513 Parnassus Ave, San Francisco, CA 94143, United StatesJob Posted Date: March 5, 2024Postdoc Positions at UCSFPopulation: Life SciencesMultiple fully funded postdoctoral positions are available in the Singh Lab at the University of California, San Francisco (www.singhlabucsf.org) to study vertebrate aging and embryonic diapause in African killifish. Our lab uses interdisciplinary approaches to study the mechanisms of age-associated functional decline and extreme phenotypes, using African killifish as a model system. These fish have evolved extraordinary adaptations to survive in their extreme habitat, including a state of ‘suspended animation’ called diapause and a compressed lifespan of ~6 months. These phenotypes make them a rapid and unique vertebrate model to study diapause, aging, and age-related diseases. Our lab leverages the unique biology of African killifish combined with cross-species comparative genomics to target conserved aspects of aging and disease.Current projects involve researching the genomic underpinnings of metabolism during suspended animation and aging in killifish, the genomic basis of longevity differences across species, and conserved mechanisms of cognitive decline and brain aging. Our lab uses interdisciplinary approaches, including single-cell, bulk, and spatial ‘omics’ technologies, CRISPR-based perturbations, computational modeling, and machine learning. The development of new experimental, computational, and statistical approaches is an integral part of our work. This position offers outstanding opportunities to develop independent research projects in aging, evolutionary/developmental biology, and bioinformatics. We are looking for postdocs with computational, experimental, or interdisciplinary backgrounds.Successful candidates for postdoctoral positions are expected to have a Ph.D. in a relevant field with a strong publication record. They should be ambitious, highly motivated, collaborative, and able to conduct independent research. Our laboratory fosters a dynamic and collaborative environment and is a part of the wider communities UCSF offers, including the Bakar Aging Research Institute (BARI) and the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute (BCHSI).Job Requirements:Required Qualifications:We are looking for candidates with backgrounds in both computational and/or experimental biology. The ideal candidate should have a PhD or MD/PhD in genetics, developmental biology, molecular biology, genomics, biological engineering, computational biology, or a related field.Strong track record of publications with demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols, procedures, and genomic data analysis.Excellent communication and organization skills.Ability to work independently as well as a part of the team.Previous work with animal models, specifically aquatic models such as zebrafish, is a plus.Desired Qualifications:For the experimental postdoc position:Strong skills in molecular and developmental biology such as Cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, live imaging, confocal/time-lapse microscopy, microinjection, transgenesis, IHC, etc.Experience with CRISPR-based approaches for genome manipulation.Generation and analysis of single-cell, spatial, or multi-omics libraries.For the computational postdoc position:Expertise in R and/or Python to analyze single-cell, multi-ome, or spatial genomic datasets in a Unix/Linux-based HPC or cloud environment.Knowledge of statistical methods for data analysis, preferably with applications to high-throughput genomics.Familiarity with machine learning and deep learning techniques for biological data analysis, including proficiency in applying these methods to genomic, proteomic, or imaging datasets.How to Apply:Please send a CV with the contact information of three references and a cover letter describing your research background, interests, and future plans to
