Population: Life Sciences The Hsiung Lab (www.hsiunglab.org) at UCSF is looking to recruit exceptionally capable postdoctoral researchers. Our research themes include synthetic gene regulation, combinatorial functional genomics, and tissue biology. We welcome candidates with varying extents of wet and/or dry lab skills and interests. We are broadly interested in exceptionally driven individuals with background and/or interests in gene regulation, synthetic biology, gene delivery methods, single-cell approaches, quantitative/systems biology, cell reprogramming, and tissue biology. We are especially welcome candidates interested in some subset of the following areas: Developing and/or applying CRISPR synthetic biology approaches to engineer and understand genome regulation in mammalian cells. Developing and/or applying CRISPR functional genomics approaches for studying tissue biology, including in mouse models and/or in fresh surgical specimens from patients. We are especially interested in using such approaches to study tissue regeneration in the liver or engineering cancer cells to be recognized by the immune system. Developing and/or applying experimental algorithms for efficiently exploring numerous higher-order combinations of genetic perturbations, such as for cell reprogramming. We aim to create opportunities for interdisciplinary work that synergizes with the expertise of our collaborators at UCSF. For example, it may be suitable for candidates with a primarily computational background looking to train in functional genomics experimental skills to be co-mentored by another PI with computational expertise. We value strong work ethic, enthusiasm, creativity, rigor, and affinity for collaborations. For appropriate projects, the candidate may have the opportunity to work collaboratively with junior specialists or other members in the lab.
