Life Sciences Position Description:
The Avagyan Lab at UCSF is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our research program as a post-doctoral fellow. The lab is focused on understanding the origins of genetic blood disorders and how somatic mutations shape developmental and adult hematopoiesis, with the goal of finding ways to prevent progression of pre-leukemic blood states in high-risk genetic conditions. The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to perform laboratory work and conduct research independently and in a collaborative team with the guidance of Dr. Avagyan. The candidate should have excellent organizational and communication skills, plan and prepare for experiments, accurately document methods and experiments, analyze data, and prepare manuscripts for publication. The candidate will attend and present at scientific meetings, present in lab meetings regularly, and meet one-on-one with Dr. Avagyan on a regular basis to discuss research progress and career development. Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:
Doctoral degree. Candidate should have a strong background in hematopoiesis, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, and/or cancer biology. Required experimental proficiencies including
in vitro
culture and experimentation of blood stem cells, flow cytometry and sorting, molecular biology, CRISPR/Cas9-based screening, RNA-sequencing, and ATAC-sequencing. Computational and bioinformatics skills are desirable but not required. The applicant should have an eagerness to learn, pay attention to detail, and teach and collaborate with others. Pay Scale Information:
Starting at $66,737, dependent on level of experience; subject to at least 3.5% increase annually. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay may vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, education and experience within the job. Job Requirements:
