ABOUT OUR TEAM

We are responsible for building a continuously expanding technology infrastructure that provides a global platform on which all OpenTable services reside. Our data center and cloud infrastructure use the latest networking, virtualization, automation, and configuration management tools. If the tools don’t exist or meet our needs, we are not afraid to write or script them ourselves. We believe in open source software and use it extensively. Our team is highly collaborative and closely works with all of our engineering organizations. We strive for efficiency, stability, and speed.

The Technology Operations team supports all functional areas across the company and provides the following services:

Building and running production and internal business critical services

Provisioning hardware, storage and virtual environments

Maintaining an efficient deployment pipeline through the use of configuration management

Overseeing our cloud hosting environments

Managing our own data centers

Administering the networks between and across data centers

Providing metrics, logging, and monitoring services for use by our engineering teams

ABOUT THE ROLE

Being at a global company, you would be a subject matter expert in how our data centers and cloud infrastructure function. You have strong knowledge in a variety of areas, but are an expert in a few of them. You will need to effectively communicate, collaborate, and influence team members and engineering technical leads across many timezones. You will organize and plan projects from start to finish with other technical leads as needed. Additionally, you should not be afraid to get your hands dirty writing scripts/code, configuring hardware, troubleshooting issues, digging into logs, looking at metrics, and deciding how to scale infrastructure. At its core, this role requires excellent problem solving skills. We support our corporate infrastructure paying the same attention to availability, scalability, and efficiency as we do our production facing services. You will be mentor, teach, and guide others as we strive to develop successful independent teams that solve problems in an efficient and cost effective manner.

ABOUT YOU

7+ years of experience leading or managing a team of DevOps or Operations engineers on multi-team projects

Able to represent team management as needed when it comes to incidents, technical direction, and planning

Able to communicate effectively with team members (engineering, IT, business, etc) of diverse technical backgrounds

Demonstrated ability to, plan, prioritize the work of others, drive, and contribute to multi-dimensional projects across multiple teams

You are an innovator that is developing new concepts, methods, techniques

Ability to develop long terms plans based on goals set by the team and business

Extensive experience in administering, troubleshooting, deploying, and configuring Linux systems in a data center and/or cloud infrastructure such as AWS

Knowledge of networking technologies such as switching, routing, firewalls, and load balancing

Previous experience supporting corporate IT infrastructure (email, file shares, VPN, JIRA)

Have a strong passion for automation and configuration management – if you need to do it more than once, you are the type of person that will automate it (Puppet experience a plus)

Previous experience working with and contributing to open source projects a plus

Experience writing scripts and programs in one or more of Python, Ruby, or Bash

Expertise in using virtualization technologies such as Vmware, Xen, or KVM

Interest in monitoring and metrics tools such as Sensu, Graphite, and Statsd

Strong background in open source and active participation in the open source community

Interest in maintaining a logging analysis pipeline using Elastic Search, Kibana and Logstash
