has an immediate opening for an experienced
Senior Estimator
with a background in heavy civil construction. The Senior Estimator will be based in our Carlsbad, California office and manage all aspects of developing cost estimates for large heavy civil projects involving earthwork and underground utilities, as well as be responsible for developing cost estimates for projects involving structures.
Responsibilities:
Create detailed cost estimates arranged to follow the pricing format required by the projectResearch pricing for estimates based on historical and regional costsProvide high level scoping of the project to create the estimate summary and outsourcing control worksheetsLead outreach to subcontractor and supply community directlyVisit project work sites, participate in pre-proposal meetings, clarify scope of work, and prepare RFI'sPrepare written statement of qualifications and/or proposals that respond directly to project owners' requests for qualifications and requests for proposalsEvaluate projects for constructability and value-engineer cost savingsWork closely with Company personnel and other stakeholders to develop strategy, competitive differentiation, and an overall understanding of the projectUnderstand and seek out specialty subcontractors and suppliers that fulfill the unique requirements of a projectDevelop and/or manage the development of a preliminary bid scheduleDevelop self-performed estimates for the trades that we choose to self-performWork closely with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders through the bid process to understand and capture the complete scope of each trade in the scope summary sheets and the estimate at largeAccurately utilize project plans and specifications to identify scopes of work, assign crews, schedules, materials, and subcontracting opportunitiesManage bid receipt of subcontractor and supplier pricing to develop Company's final selling price and offerUnderstand and manage Company's risk as part of the proposal preparation processWork with team to close the estimate in HCSSWork on a preliminary project schedule based on the information provided in the Plans and Specifications utilizing Primavera Contractor softwareProposal development and technical writingJob Requirements:
4-year BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, P.E. preferred10+ years of experience in heavy civil estimating requiredEstimating experience with earthwork, underground utilities, bridges, CIP concrete structures, retaining walls, and other structuresExperience in all aspects of heavy civil work scopes preferredExperience with DOTs preferredHCSS (Heavy bid Software), Agtek, and Primavera P6 strongly preferredAlternate delivery experience preferred including technical writing skillsStrong prioritization and organizational skillsSense of urgency and the ability to multi-taskHighly productive and willing to manage a busy work schedule independentlySuperior verbal and written (including technical) communication skills.
