Job Duties
Norfolk State University's (NSU) Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to working and learning through systematic maintenance, repair, and renovation and construction of campus buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.
The department invites enthusiastic, motivated individuals interested in serving as Housekeepers. Housekeepers play a significant role in the facility operations of the University.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Perform routine and specialized cleaning operations as a member of a cleaning team assigned to one of four campus cleaning zones.Maintain established standards of cleanliness and orderliness throughout campus buildings.Routine and specialized cleaning operations include sweeping, vacuuming, dry and wet mopping, stripping and refinishing, spray buffing, burnishing, shampooing floors, cleaning walls, windows, doors, tables, chairs desks, counters, chalkboards and trash receptacles.Dispose of refuse; clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.Ability to meet the physical demands which include occasional pushing, pulling and lifting items between 0-50lbs; frequent bending, stooping, and reaching and extending hands and arms in any direction; standing for extended periods of time and to tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions in the completion of housekeeping duties.Ability to work before and after work hours and during emergencies. Work on weekend, evenings, and holidays as assigned.Provide cleaning support for campus functions and events, including event preparation, setup and breakdown.Comply with standing instructions provided by housekeeping equipment and chemical manual, safety rules and regulations for personal protection, safety and safety of others.
Minimum Qualifications
Work requires knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.Basic knowledge of proper sanitation and cleaning techniques.Skill in using housekeeping equipment including buffers, burnishers, sweepers, mops, brooms, squeegee, wet and dry vacuums and hand cleaning sprayers and tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working as a housekeeper or custodian in schools or institution type setting.
