POSITION PURPOSE:

The position of Bus Driver is responsible for operating a school bus and other vehicles and perform associated and operational duties in transporting students.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: ( These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)• Maintain established routes and schedules consistent with safe driving practices and passenger safety.• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.• Fuel, clean and wash bus and report bus/servicing requirements.• Establish a positive rapport with passengers, exhibiting friendliness and genuine concern.• Enforce passenger conduct standards, reporting infractions as directed.• Maintain complete and accurate records.• Perform other related tasks as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:• Reports to and is directly supervised by the Transportation Manager.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

(positions in this class typically require):

Required:• High school diploma or equivalent;Minimum five (5) years automotive driving experience;Good driving record for past five (5) years; Department of Motor Vehicles report will be required;

Preferred:• Supervisory experience with groups of children;Will be required annually to pass all school bus driver requirements as mandated by State and Federal law;

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

(positions in this class typically require):

Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License;Obtain a Washington State School Bus Driver's authorization prior to regular employment;Obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to regular employment;

SKILLS

(position requirements at entry):

Ability to communicate orally and in writing;Perform 40-pound minimum lift stress test;Must be able to successfully pass the bus driver training course, including First Aid;Ability to pass Department of Transportation physical;Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements;Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

May work outdoors in inclement weather. May require physical mobility to move through a school campus, including up and down stairs and inside and outside.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a general posting for one or more Bus Driver positions. Positions may be full or part-time and will be filled as specific openings are identified.

2023-24 Transportation Personnel salary classification range $23.85/hour to 37.15hour ($23.85 per hour during training, $31.05 per hour during probation & $34.52 per hour after 90 work day probation) based on negotiated collective bargaining agreement, 20-40 hours per week, for a 180-day annual assignment.

Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Holiday pay based on negotiated bargaining agreement.
