PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Ensure safe and orderly transportation on assigned route. Operate school bus that transports
students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated location.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B) with S Endorsement
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be 18 years of age
Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of student discipline procedure
Ability to manage student behavior
Ability to operate school bus safely
Experience:
None required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Vehicle Operation
1.1 Per documented instructions, follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
1.2 Transport student/staff to and from extracurricular activities as required.
1.3 Pre-trip/post trip bus before/after each AM/PM run and/or field trip. Pre-trip/post trip inspection form is supplied.
1.4 Document via maintenance request form any mechanical problems as a result of pre/post trip inspection.
1.5 Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Complete required reports.
1.6 Maintain Pre-trip/Post trip inspection log on a daily basis. Turn in weekly to supervisor.
1.7 Keep assigned bus fueled and clean at all times.
2. Student Management
2.1 Supervise students while loading, riding, and exiting school bus. Adhere to bus conduct rules.
2.2 Maintain discipline, report student discipline problems via bus conduct report form.
2.3 Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
2.4 Establish and maintain bus seating chart.
3. Safety
3.1 Observe all traffic laws and safely regulations for school buses.
3.2 Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, bio-hazard kit and reflectors.
3.3 Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
3.4 Report any hazardous conditions along the route.
4. Other
4.1 Operate two-way radio equipment required to communicate with base and/or school campuses.
4.2 Work irregular hours as needed.
4.3 Attend and complete required driver training/safety classes as required.
4.4 Every 3 years attend re-certification class to maintain certification.

Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot/cold) and vehicle fumes.
