Primary Purpose:
Operate a School Bus in a safe and efficient manner, abiding by applicable Federal and State laws and Navarro ISD policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:High School Diploma or GED, preferredValid School Bus Driver Certification CardValid Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class B) With "School Bus" and "Passenger" endorsementsAbility to obtain annual DOT medical cardAcceptable driving recordAcceptable Fingerprinting and Criminal History Record
Special Knowledge/Skills:Ability to read and writeAbility to communicate professionally with parents, students and staffAbility to complete required bus driver safety training
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Drive a school bus safely and professionally.Exercise the effective defensive driving skills of self-control, alertness, foresight and good judgment at all times while operating the school bus.Follow designated bus route descriptions.Conduct a passenger check after completion of each route.Perform and properly complete daily pre and post trip inspections.Know, recognize and obey road signs and signals by meanings, shapes, sounds and colors.Support and enforce discipline policies set forth in the district's student code of conduct.Attend all scheduled in-service training.Immediately report all mechanical problems to Transportation office staff.Keep assigned bus clean inside and out.Fuel bus when fuel gauge reads half full.Know and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures of a school bus.Report all safety concerns to Transportation office staff.Participate in drug and alcohol screening and/or testing, as required.Complete all reports on student discipline incidents.Maintain and enforce seating chart as all students must be in assigned seat.Supervise students while transporting them to include not permitting passengers to stand or sit on the floor of the bus while the bus is in motion.Adhere to guidelines as stated in the Texas School Bus Certification or Recertification Handbook.Equipment Used:Two-way radios, fire extinguisher, wheelchair lift and securement equipment, First-Aid kit, Body Fluid Clean-up kit, computer and bus routing tablet.
Working Conditions:Extensive sitting, moderate walking, standing, exposure to exhaust fumes, and fuel. Moderate squatting and bending.Climbing bus steps.Exposure to seasonal temperatures.
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluation of Auxiliary personnel.
